THE PLAYER SPEAKS | Robertson spoke about switching his commitment and the fact that Texas Tech recently hired Darrin Chiaverini (via Rivals):

"Honestly, I like the people," he said. "I like the system they have. I like the coaching staff. I just like everything about Texas Tech. And, plus, one of my coaches (Darrin Chiaverini) just got hired there so that just made it a plus."

And Robertson talked abut how he wanted to earn his spot:

"I just didn't want to have a spot given to me," he said. "I asked them if I would be able to come in and compete at left tackle, even though they still have one, and they told me I definitely would be able to compete. Even if not, I don't have a problem playing right tackle. That's where their need is at. I'm still going to try to compete for the left tackle."

SCOUTING REPORT | Robertson has terrific footwork and does a nice job of getting his hands on the opposing defender. Pretty good off the rush and is able to maintain the pocket, although from the video I watched, Robertson really didn't deal with any speed rushers like he will in the Big 12. Robertson shows the ability to really go after players when he's asked to run block and does a good job of keeping his feet. To me, Robertson reminds me of fellow commit, Dontae Levingston, long and lean tackle types, much in the same mold as Rashad Fortenberry.

There's no doubt that Chiaverini knows Robertson better than anyone else and it's nice to have his hiring pay off with a commit in a position of need. Especially if a majority of the freshmen class from last year are placed at the guard spots, Texas Tech will need some depth at offensive tackle. And add in the thought that with Beau Carpenter's dismissal, just having some mature bodies along the line should help out tremendously. OL coach Lee Hays has shown a propensity to move guys where he feels best, regardless of what you expect their position to be.
