SCOUTING REPORT | Whenever I watch these JUCO videos, I try my best to think that the competition isn't all that great and focus on technique and form. How do the routes look if it is a receiver? If it is defensive back, what's their footwork like? That sort of thing. I tried to do the same thing with Levingston in watching his film. I initially wasn't all that excited about doing a write-up on Levingston, who was originally an SMU signee, but went back to California for family things. I was thinking that Levingston wasn't going to be anything special and I don't think he's "special" in the sense that he's transcendent, but there's a lot of things to really like here.

Levingston has really good footwork. Really good. Stays relatively low for an offensive lineman, or at least he doesn't get really high on his film. There are a couple of clips on his film where Levingston drops off his defensive lineman to the guard to then seamlessly pick up a blitzing player on the outside. How many times did we see this happen this past year? Offensive line pay is really beautiful to watch when it's done well and I love seeing stuff like that. Levingston does a nice job of zone blocking, which isn't rocket science, but it is blocking down in unison and he does that well. Levinston is also pretty darned athletic, which is what you would expect from a guy that is only 285 or so. He can really move out in space and showed the ability track down defensive backs and block when pulling. It's easy for offensive linemen to whiff on those sorts of things. And maybe most importantly, Levingston looks good in space playing left tackle. The ability to block one-on-one. There really isn't a greater thing that an offensive linemen needs to do.

I wanted to mention two more things. First, Levingston was named the first team Pacific Conference offensive line. Second, Santa Monica's masco is the "Corsairs". I did not know what Corsair is and I looked it up: 1) A pirate, especially along the Barbary Coast; 2) A swift pirate ship, often operating with official sanction.

Dontae, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
