Texas Tech Alum scores fastest goal in Olympic Women’s Soccer history

Janine Beckie is better at soccer than most people.

Former Red Raider Janine Beckie made international history today by scoring the fastest goal in Olympic Women’s Soccer history.

Janine doesn’t play for the USWNT, she plays for Canada. That doesn’t matter in this equation, as she just aced this crossing pass from Christine Sinclair. The goal put Canada up 1-0 on New Zealand in the first few minutes.

In addition to the Canadian Women’s National Team, Beckie plays for the Houston Dash, who she scored for in her first game.

She’s also the all-time leading goal scorer for Texas Tech with 57 goals from 2012-2015.

Janine Beckie made history today, there’s no other way to say it. Scoring the fastest goal ever in the Olympics is a feat that likely won’t be beaten anytime soon. If you haven’t been keeping up with Texas Tech’s women’s soccer team, you might want to start. They won the Big 12 for the first time in program history last year, and they’ll start the year ranked #19 in the nation. You can catch them in action on August 19th in Lubbock against UNM.
