Recruiting on the South Plains | CB Nigel Bethel Commits to Texas Tech

The Texas Tech Red Raiders flipped Miami Hurricane commit, defensive back Nigel Bethel II, who will be part of the 2014 class. This is very much a surprise for me, although Bethel visited Lubbock back in September, he said he was still committed to Miami. CB coach Kevin Curtis continued to keep in contact with Bethel.

STATS | According to his 24/7 profile, Bethel only had 26 and 28 tackles the past two years, with 4 interceptions as a junior and 2 as a senior.

THE PLAYER SPEAKS | Per RRS, Bethel talked about committing to Texas Tech

"I chose Texas Tech because it's a great opportunity for me to start early and play early," he said. "It's a great league. They throw the ball a lot.

"Coach (Kevin) Curtis never gave up and he believed in me even though I was committed to Miami. We messaged and Facebooked with each other, we have a real relationship."

Bethel also talked about how he runs track and that Texas Tech track coach Wes Kittley helped in recruiting.

SCOUTING REPORT | This is a really good commit for Texas Tech. Bethel is a Florida All-State performer and you could find a hanful of articles about how Bethel dominated, despite not really having the statistics to prove it out. I suppose you don't have quarterbacks really throwing at you. That's really an understatement, but it's true nonetheless. Bethel is very fluid, turns incredicly well in coverage and sticks with his man down the field. Bethel is an explosive athlete that just adds to the handful of defensive backs that are true game changers for this team.

This also makes me think that guys like Payton Hendrix and Connor Wilson, could eventually play at different spots other than safety as they have big bodies that could transition to a different spot.

And as you're high-fiving about this commit, just remember not to throw stones when the same thing happens to Texas Tech. These things happen.

Nigel, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
