Five Star Basketball Recruit Eyes Texas Tech

Chris Beard looks to add a high powered recruit to the 2017 class.

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

This week 5 star point guard Trae Young announced that Texas Tech is in his top six. The other five schools Young is also considering include Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Washington, and Kansas. Young is considered to be one of the top three point guards in the country and is listed as one of ESPN's  top 25 recruits for 2017. Coach Beard is obviously doing some good things on the recruiting trail for Texas Tech to be in the running with blue bloods like Kentucky and Kansas. The 6'1 -170 pound point guard resides in Norman and plays at Norman North High School.

Statistically Tech currently has a 16.6% chance of landing Young, but I'm giving it about a 25%. I think if Young decides to leave the Norman then Texas Tech will have a legitimate shot of gaining his commitment. Lubbock is only a few hours from Norman and he will get to come home and play in front of friends and family once a year.

He has said he will make the final decision sometime around January.

Young was recently a member of the under 18 men's national team that won the gold medal at the world championships.

Here is the tweet announcing his top 6 schools.

Here is an interview from rivals.com discussing how he narrowed it down to his final 6 choices.
