From a fan of Texas Tech
Dear Mr. Miles,
I am sorry to hear you were fired at LSU. I was a fan of yours, and I enjoyed watching your teams played especially the defense. Year after year you seemed to get the job done, and always compete. I am sure you are going to land on your feet and you can pick the job you want for next year. With that in mind you may be taking a needed vacation.
I think taking time off would be a mistake on your part. You have a great opportunity right now to work on something you have not had the time to work on yet, learning how to develop a quarterback. It is one of the biggest criticisms against you. You may be thinking, where do I go to learn about offenses, and how to have successful college quarterbacks? Let me answer that for you. Texas Tech University. Where you succeed we struggle. Where you struggle we succeed.
I believe we can have a mutually beneficial relationship for the rest of this season. We can learn from you, and you can learn from us. I am sure you remember our offense putting amazing numbers on your defense last year during the Texas bowl. Where Mahomes in his first bowl appearance and first season to start as a quarterback threw for almost 400 yards and 4 touchdowns. Mahomes converted 2 3rd and 11s, a 3rd and 10, and a 4th and 15. This was all against a great defense. You came out on top that game, but you cannot deny the potency of the Texas Tech offense, and the skill of our quarterbacks. Think of how much you could learn by spending some time with one of the best offenses in the nation.
We (tech fans) are asking something in return. Bring your grass eating magic to Lubbock. We need help on defense. Our defenses are atrocious. We are currently 124th in the nation, last year we were 127th only ahead of Kansas (who lost every game). The year before that 125th, Over the last three year we have been one of the consistently worst defenses (if not the worst) in the nation. We need to learn from you. LSU has ranked 35th, 25th, and 9th in these same years all coming in the SEC West with Heisman winners, contenders, and national champions.
We need your help, and I think you need ours. You can be on top again with a better understanding of offenses, and we could win a conference championship with some semblance of a defense. Come to Lubbock, we would not say no.
Thank you,
A Texas Tech and Les Miles fan.
