We're 0-1 in the BIG 12. Why? Playing Mahomes at 60% of His Normal Effectiveness!

Patrick's arm strength was very noticeably missing last week at Kansas State. Even in the first quarter, his passes did not have the normal zip we are used to seeing. The long pass he threw that was so beautiful was a skillfully floated ball that reached a high altitude and dropped perfectly into the arms of his receiver. When Patrick is healthy his passes don't reach more than about 15 feet at their highest while on a bullet-like trajectory. For myself it was obvious to see. Patrick had not been throwing during the week like a healthy QB would have done. How do I know? He was off target on most his throws, with balls having to be jumped and dived for by the receivers. A polished Patrick Mahomes who has had full practice time hits people in stride, chest high, and very crisply. He did well considering his handicap for 3 quarters. At the end of the game we had a chance to win with Nic Shimonek.Patrick couldn't get more than 10 yards out of that smashed right shoulder. He under threw Dylan Cantrell by 5 yards on a 15 yard sideline route. It was obvious that he was hurt when the training staff held towels up to hide him while they performed some sort of bracing or patch up work in "secrecy." I , and I'm sure the entire Red Raider Nation, was very pleasantly impressed by the performance of Nic Shimonek against Kansas. He has poise, intelligence, leadership qualities at the line of scrimmage, and cool execution with a strong and accurate arm. We all love Patrick, but Kingsbury is doing him a grave injustice by not making him sit and rehabilitate . Putting him in just prolongs the injury or aggravates it and worsens it, while the team and the program gets cheated out of the best possible outcome. Nic Shimonek as our QB at Kansas State gives our Red Raiders a 1 and 0 start with a victory! Playing an injured Patrick got us beat in the second half. Wake up Kliff, and realize that the team is bigger than any individual. Even if he is a Heisman candidate, and an adopted son.. Have some spine and make him heal the injury before taking the field again. Shimonek at 100% is the right answer! When your defense fights its heart out and gets 3 stops on downs in a row, there is no excuse for getting anything less than 21 points for them. We ended up with 3 to show for it. I'll never second guess Kliff on his play calling. I'm saying that with healthy personnel his plays will succeed.
