Recruiting on the South Plains: OL Conner Dyer Player Profile

Mesquite's Conner Dyer, a 4-star offensive lineman, commits to Texas Tech and is Texas Tech's 8th commit in the 2015 class. We've got links to every recruiting service profile, video and analysis. Plus the updated table on the 2014 class.

US PRESSWIRE

The best. That's pretty much how Kliff Kingsbury and the rest of the coaching staff is selling this class. A lot of you have been very worried about the lack of commits, but this is the reason why. Sometimes, it takes time to land the big fish.

Dyer is a big fish and he's the 8th commit as part of the 2015 class.

I've mentioned this before, and it's not from me, it's from Chris Level, who has said multiple times that Texas Tech is going for the best of the best and if that takes time, then you're just going to have to be patient.  Think about it like this.

Dyer is a top 300 player according to 24/7 Sports and so is Breiden Fehoko and Jarrett Stidham and don't sleep on Corey Dauphine and Lio Lafaele because I think either one of those guys could jump up the rankings once things settle.  Last year, in the 2014 class, the highest rated non-JUCO player was Payton Hendrix and he was ranked at 343.  Now, before these players have en had a chance to play their senior year, Texas Tech has three top 300 players and two of them are almost top 50 in their 2015 class.  We're really entering into some new territory here and we all know that this was a boom or bust situation.  Right now, there's a lot more booms than busts.

THE PLAYER SPEAKS: Thanks to Daniel Paulling at Wreckem247, we get a bit from Dyer's high school head coach who said that the coaching staff at Texas Tech did a terrfic job recruiting Dyer:

Overton believes Dyer committed because of the relationships Tech’s coaches built. He said head coach Kliff Kingsbury and all of his assistants visited as often as they could.

"The staff did a super job with him," Overton said. "They built a great relationship. They showed a genuine interest in him and his family. I think he and his family both believe that they maybe were the most genuine of all the schools."

SCOUTING REPORT: I pretty much love Dyer as a guard. He's a terrific high school tackle, but I just love what I think he could be as a guard. I'm looking for a mobile and a guy that can get up and down the line of scrimmage and I think that's what Dyer offers. His size, assuming that he just adds 15 to 25 pounds is going to be the perfect size for a guard.

I think that Dyer maybe lacks some quickness to play tackle long-term, but there's a lot to determine on that front and it's a long ways away from that point. The best thing is that right now, he does project at one of the best high school tackles and offensive linemen in the country.

Conner, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
