Texas Tech Adds Another Victory Over A Top 10 Team

New, 2 comments

The Red raiders offense came back to life in Florida, winning 8-4 against #9 Florida State

1. Red Raider of the Game

Michael Davis went 2 for 5 with a run and 2 RBI's. He also had 4 putouts and assisted on 6 others. Mike has been great at second base this year, and had a good game at the plate as well. Plus, he had some nifty base running to score on this play.

2. Play That Impacted the Game

Tech came out firing in the 1st inning, starting out with a Stephen Smith double, and he advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. It took 5 batters for tech to get out, and that was on a sacrifice fly that made the game 2-0. Another sac fly and a 2-RBI double from Michael Davis made it 5-0 before the Seminoles even came to the plate.

3. Stat of the Game

4-2. The Red Raiders are now 4-2 in games against top 10 teams, with victories over Cal, Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette, and now Florida St. None of these games have been in Lubbock as Tech looks to build up their non-conference schedule to please the powers that be to hopefully host a Regional this season.

4. Forgotten Play of the Game

When FSU finally got a hit in the 4th inning, they strung several good plate appearances together, cutting Tech's lead to 6-2. The bases were loaded when pinch hitter Gage West came up. Robert Dugger got him to ground out to end the inning and the threat.

5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game

Tech turned the tables on FSU from last night's game, scoring 6 runs before FSU even got a hit. They outhit the Seminoles 12-8, and didn't commit an error, whereas FSU had 2. The Red Raiders had 6 extra base hits to 3 for the Seminoles. The pitching wasn't spectacular, but the three juniors combined to pitch well enough to get the win. The offense woke up tonight as well, tripling their hits from last night.

Tech gets back to Big 12 play with a weekend series against OSU in Stillwater starting Friday. This will be their last conference series until UT comes to town on April 22nd.
