The 19th commitment of the 2012 Texas Tech recruiting class and the first and only running back of the class. I'm sure there's some thought that Texas Tech doesn't need any more running backs, but with the injury to Eric Stephens, Bradley Marquez being moved to receiver and the suspension of Ronnie Daniels, I think that this probably became a higher priority.

Offers and Rankings: White originally committed to Tulsa (my other alma mater) and had been committed to the Golden Hurricanes since the summer. Rivals has White as the 14th best running back, 91st overall, in the state and Scout has him as the 82nd best player in the state. ESPN has him as the 77th best running back prospect and in the 200's as far as the state is concerned. Other offers include the service academies, including Navy, Air Force and Army, La. Tech and obviously, Tulsa. So there's not a huge offer list and not the highest ranked player. I think if you had to compare, this reminds me a bit of De'Andre Washington in that he's not the most highly rated of running back prospects, but he's been awfully effective his high school team. Dave Campbell's Texas Football says that he's one of the top 300 players in the state, but not one of the top 25 running backs.
More after the jump.
The Player Speaks: LAJ's Don Williams spoke with White, who had this to say about the offer to Texas Tech:
"I was nervous, because I didn’t know if Tech was going to offer me," White said. "I’m a smaller running back. I’m not that fast. I originally committed to Tulsa and was pretty solid there. Then I got the offer today and was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. It’s for real.’"
Snip.
"I like their offense," White said, "and (receiver) Detron Lewis went there who was a graduate from A&M Consolidated. I like what they did with him. It’s a good program to be in, and Tommy Tuberville’s a great head coach."
DMN's Mike Graham spoke with his high school teammate and now fellow Texas Tech commit, J.J. Bynum, about his day and getting an offer from Texas Tech:
"I found out a couple of weeks ago that Tech was looking at it and we had been talking about him coming with us," Bynum told RedRaiderSports.com. "I found some tape and I taped the Double-T on his locker and he told me after I did that, 'I'm not taking that down. If they offer me that's where I'm going to go. We were hoping he'd get an offer that way he could come. He's always wanted to come there since third grade...
"After he committed to Tech he ran through the field house trying to find me. I was on the scale weighing myself and he ran in there and jumped on me. He was almost in tears he was so excited that he had gotten offered and committed to them."
The Video: Film don't lie.
Quinton White 2010 Highlights (via AMCTigers)
Scouting Report: He's awfully slick, is able to make defenders miss by stopping on a dime, I think he'll fit in nicely at Texas Tech. White says that he isn't fast, but that doesn't appear to be the case. He's got plenty of burst and the fact that he's able to make so many plays outside the tackles is a good indication of that speed.
Quinton, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
The 2012 Class: I haven't had time to update the averages, so I'm leaving them off for now. I need to update some player profiles.
