Texas Tech Basketball Tale Of The Tape: Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-9)

Texas Tech plays host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff today at 3:00 PM.

The Red Raiders are coming off of a good win against a solid South Dakota State team and now face an abysmal Arkansas-Pine Bluff squad. Pine Bluff is 2-9 and all 9 losses are by double-digits with 12 being their lowest margin of defeat. Anything can happen though, right?

Ark-PB Key Players

Category Stat Name
Points/Game 11.6 G JoVaughn Love
Rebounds/Game 4.9 G JoVaughn Love
Assist/Game 2.5 G Ghiavonni Robinson
3pt Made/3pt % 16/70, 28.2% G JoVaughn Love
Free Throw % 27/36, 75% G JoVaughn Love

As you can see, most of the Golden Lions' offense is ran through guard JoVaughn Love. Love is the leading scorer but only averages 11.6 points a game and is the only player on the team who averages double-digit points a game. Love is also only shooting 36% from the field and a mere 28.2% from the 3-point line. The best defense on Love might be to leave him open for a mid-range or 3-point shot.

Last 5 Games

11/28 SE Louisiana W 62-60
12/2 Hawaii L 75-47
12/5 Virginia Tech L 80-45
12/13 #4 Iowa State L 78-64
12/15 Santa Clara L 69-57

Pine Bluff has managed to only win two games so far this year and both wins were only by 2 points. The Golden Lines have lost their 9 games by an average of almost 27 points a game this year, including two 40+ losses. The same Hawaii team the Red Raiders beat by 8 defeated the Golden Lions by 28. Number 13 ranked Michigan State beat Pine Bluff earlier in the year by 46 but recently #4 Iowa State only won by 14. It'll be interesting to see which team shows up against the Red Raiders.

The Red Raiders are on a hot streak and I don't see them slowing down in this game. I expect them to roll Pine Bluff pretty easily and shut down the Golden Lions' offense but score plenty of points of their own. The only way this game is close is if Texas Tech goes into the game unfocused but it seems as though Tubby Smith has had his troops prepared so far this season.

Texas Tech's next game will be against Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday at 2:00 PM.
