Texas Tech's spring game takes place this Saturday and some recruits will be in Lubbock to check it out. As of right now there's around 10 guys confirmed according to 24/7 headlined by Frisco's Jack Anderson and Dawson Deaton. Today I'll look at 3 of those recruits who will be at Jones AT&T checking out the action. All 3 hail from the DFW area with one being a playmaking DB, another is an up and coming DE and one can do just about anything you ask him to.
Darrion Green | 5'11", 170 lbs | Cornerback
Woodrow Wilson High School (Dallas, TX)
24/7 | Rivals NR | Scout
Darrion Green plays both corner and running back for Woodrow Wilson but if I was a betting man my money is on us pursuing him as a corner. In his tape below you see him playing 5-7 yards off the receiver which gives him room to come up and make a play or if it's a deep ball he can play the ball and fight the receiver for it. I'm in no way saying he can't play press, it just appears his team's scheme isn't set up that way. Green is a long rangy corner who would be good matching up with Big 12 receivers. Right now his only offer is from Michigan.
Deven Lamp | 6'4", 220 lbs | Defensive End
Cedar Hill High School (Cedar Hill, TX)
24/7 NR | Rivals NR | Scout
Lamp hails from Cedar Hill which is a team stacked with D1 talent. As of right now Lamp holds two offers from Army and Cornell. So either way he'd be getting an outstanding education even if no other schools end up overing him. At 6'4", Lamp has great length and could probably even put some more weight on his frame. Below he's seen beating the tackles off the edge or he can make a move inside to get to the ball carrier. Lamp would be a nice DE to get to Lubbock and could make an impact after beefing him up some. He's a guy who pick up a handful of more offers next season since Cedar Hill is loaded with talent and constantly in the national spotlight.
Devodrick Johnson | 6'2", 210 lbs | Athlete QB/S
Kimball High School (Dallas, TX)
24/7 NR | Rivals NR | Scout NR
If I had to describe Johnson in one word it'd be "baller", the kid can do anything the coaches ask him to. He's simply the best player on the Kimball team and he plays wherever he's needed. Watch the film below and ask yourself, what other quarterback can lay the wood like this guy does when he's playing safety. I'm a big fan of this guy and would for sure like to see him playing safety for Texas Tech one day. Johnson reminds me a lot of what Byron Eaton did at Dallas Lincoln back in the day when he started at safety and quarterback. After he's coached up on strictly one side of the ball (defense), he'll be good to go.
It's also to be noted that Landry-Walker DB Mike Lee won DB MVP honors this past weekend at The Opening New Orleans Regional and DB MVP at the Rivals Challenge camp. Lee is a Texas Tech target and it appears they are strongly in play at landing him. He'd be a great get if he becomes a Red Raider and I'll have a full write-up on him next week.
VTM will keep everyone updated if some big recruiting news goes down this weekend surrounding the spring game.
