1. Red Raider of the Game
Eric Gutierrez went 2-3 with 4 RBI's and a 3-run shot in the 5th inning. Gute continues to impress with a stellar season. He has started every game this season, and leads the team in RBI's and in slugging percentage. He also has a .991 fielding percentage, with just 3 errors on the season.
2. Play That Impacted the Game
With Tech up 5-2 in the bottom of the 5th, a Raley single and a Neslony walk put 2 on for Gute, who did not disappoint....
Watch: Gutierrez joins the HR club with a 3-run shot that gives #TexasTech an 8-2 lead in the 5th. #WreckEm https://t.co/seB286EaCr

3. Stat of the Game
7. It took junior pitcher Hayden Howard just 7 pitches to get Sam Houston St out of the 9th inning. The game was close, and a couple baserunners would make the game closer than it needed to be. A 4-pitch groundout, a 1st pitch fly out, and 2-pitch ground out would give Tech the win.
4. Forgotten Play of the Game
After SHSU took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning, Trey Ochoa would single to center and bring up Tanner Gardner, who promptly sent the 2nd pitch he saw to right field, putting Tech back on top for good.
5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game
3 home runs pushed Tech over the Bearkats, with Garcia, Gardner, and Gute all launching balls out of the park. Starter Eriksson Lanning went 5 innings and only allowed 2 hits. Relievers Dugger and Howard pitched very effectively after Dalton Brown allowed a few runs. It can be hard to continue to play at a high level against a lower level non-conference opponent, but tech added another win onto its impressive record.
Game 2 is currently being played, with Tech up 6-0.....in the 3rd inning.
