After going on a binge of firing coaches since the Texas game in late November, Kliff Kingsbury has made his first hire to replace the six coaches that were either let go or left for another school.
Emmett Jones, who previously was the Director of Player Development for Tech, has been promoted to Offensive Assistant Coach. Though Kingsbury hasn't stated which position coach Emmett will man, if any, his background is in Wide Receivers and looks to take the Outside Receivers Position.
"Coach Jones is an extremely hard working individual and already an integral part of our staff," Kingsbury said. "He will be a great addition to our offensive unit and the relationships he's built around the state will be invaluable moving forward."
This move makes sense for Kingsbury as Jones has connections in the Texas High School circuit, coming to Lubbock after being the Head Coach of South Oak Cliff for three years, holding a 30-8 record and multiple trips to the state playoffs.
Before South Oak Cliff, Jones was the offensive coordinator at Dallas Skyline.
Coach Kingsbury still has to replace the running backs position coach which was vacated by Mike Jinks as he took over the program at Bowling Green.
On the defensive side, Kingsbury and Defensive Coordinator David Gibbs have yet to make any hires. You can look at our hopes for the defensive staff here.
Congratulations on your promotion Coach Jones!
