Texas Tech Basketball Tale Of The Tape: TCU (9-8, 1-4)

The Red Raiders travel to Ft Worth to take on the Horned Frogs at 6:00 PM on ESPNU.

Just when it looked like the Red Raiders were going to get back on track with an upset over Baylor, the Bears literally pulled out the win at the last second. Texas Tech is now on a 4-game skid and face TCU in what is basically a must-win for the Red Raiders to have a shot at the Big Dance.

Check out the game on ESPNU at 6:00 PM!

TCU Key Players

Category Stat Name
Points/Game 11.7 G Malique Trent
Rebounds/Game 6.2 F Karviar Shepherd
Assist/Game 2.9 G Malique Trent
3pt Made/3pt % 27/52, 51.9% G Brandon Parrish
Free Throw % 51/63, 81.0% G Chauncey Collins

The Horned Frogs don't really have any standout studs but rely on a lot of individuals. TCU has 9 players who are seeing valuable minutes each game. Of those 9 the lowest average minutes are 13.1 and the highest is 29.8 minutes a game. Malique Trent is leading the team in both points and assists per game but both numbers aren't eye popping. It looks like any night a different person can be "the guy" for the Horned Frogs.

Last 5 Games

1/2 Oklahoma St L 69-48
1/4 West Virginia L 95-87
1/9 Texas W 58-57
1/13 #22 Baylor L 82-54
1/16 #1 Kansas L 70-63

TCU is 9-8 and have played pretty close in their 8 losses except 3 blowout losses Washington (25 pts), Oklahoma St (21 pts), and Baylor (28 pts). In their last game, the Horned Frogs only lost by 7 to #1 Kansas so it'll be interesting to see what team shows up. Will it be the squad who lost by 28 to Baylor (who we lost to on a buzzer-beater) or will it be the team who played the #1 team in the nation to a single-digit loss? One other thing to note, TCU also lost to South Dakota St by 9 earlier in the year. Texas Tech beat the same South Dakota St team by 12.

Prediction

Texas Tech 69 - TCU 63

Texas Tech can win this game if their key players are all playing well. Last game Norense Odiase was a non factor and the game before that Devaugntah Williams was off. If our starting 5 are all "on" we can walk out of Ft Worth with the win.
