Alli Murphy Joins Washington Spirit in NWSL

The second Red Raider picked in this year's NWSL Draft

A few days ago, Raider Nation was excited to hear about Janine Beckie going 8th overall to the Houston Dash. On the same day, Alli Murphy was drafted 20th overall and went to the Washington Spirit. Texas Tech is one of only four schools to have multiple picks in this year's 1st and 2nd rounds. The other schools? Florida St, Notre Dame and Virginia.

"I couldn't be happier," said Murphy. "I am incredibly blessed with the opportunity the Washington Spirit is giving me to pursue my dreams. I am so thankful to Texas Tech University and the hard work it has done to help me get to this point in my life. I would also like to give a special thank you to my family who has been beside me through all of this and have been my biggest fans. Now I am ready to take the talents God has given me to the Spirit family!"

It's an incredible achievement for an emerging soccer program that should be on the national stage for years to come behind the leadership of head coach Tom Stone. With back to back NCAA tournament appearances, a Big 12 Championship and two top 10 picks drafted in as many years, this program looks to continue strong recruiting and become a force in the world of soccer.

Should be an exciting upcoming season for both our Red Raiders in the pros and our soccer program. Can't wait to see what they will do next.
