Texas Tech Recruiting Roundup, 1/13

National Signing Day is getting close, where does Texas Tech's 2016 class rank?

National Signing Day is right around the corner, February 3rd, and Texas Tech's class sits at 26 commits. As of now, there hasn't been any speculating about any commits flipping or any commits being on the fence about their commitment to the Red Raiders. Even though the class seems to be solid, that doesn't mean there won't be any surprises in 3 weeks. There could always be some good surprises as well, with some off-the-radar recruits committing to Texas Tech.

With the Red Raiders class looking to be a lock, I'm going to take a look at where Texas Tech ranks when it comes to team rankings for the 2016 recruiting class.

SCOUT

RANK

Scout has the Red Raiders as its number 22 ranked recruiting class sandwiched between USC and Arizona St. They have Texas Tech having two 4-star commits and 18 3-star guys with the two 4-star guys are T.J. Vasher and Derrick Willies. Scout notably has the Red Raiders ranked above such teams as Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Miami, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma State. While some of the teams ranked lower than the Red Raiders may have smaller classes as of now, they're still prominent names in college football. We'll see where Texas Tech ranks after NSD.

RIVALS

rank2

Rivals rankings are a little different. They factor in both class size and quality of commits. Even with that being said, I'm not sure how Iowa's class is ranked ahead of Texas Tech's 34 ranked class. According to Rivals, Tech's two 4-star guys are T.J. Vasher and Derrick Willies. They're also in agreement with Texas Tech having 18 3-star guys. Some teams that the Red Raiders are ranked higher than are Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas, Mississippi State, and Oklahoma State. You'd really think that after the year Oklahoma State had that they'd have a higher ranked class but they currently sit at 18 commits with no 4-stars and 15 3-stars.

24/7

24/7 takes a composite approach to their rankings and has Texas Tech ranked lowest at 41. It's really strange how much of a difference one service ranks a team versus another service. We have Scout ranking the Red Raiders as high as 22 and here we have 24/7 ranking teams like Minnesota, Arkansas, Texas, and Nebraska higher than Texas Tech but the Red Raiders are ranked higher than all the mentioned teams on both Scout and Rivals. It just goes to prove that when it comes to recruiting there's always differences of opinion.

With National Signing Day only 3 weeks a way, next week we will have National Recruiting Analyst Damon Sayles from BleacherReport join the staffers of VTM on a podcast to discuss Texas Tech's 2016 recruiting class. So everyone make sure to keep their eye out for that!
