Red Raider of the Game
Anthony Lyons started the game with Tanner Gardner injured. He didn't see much action over the season, but was involved in the scoring today with a walk in the 6th and later came across the plate. He also had a sac fly in the 7th that scored Tyler Floyd.
Play That Impacted The Game
In the bottom of the 7th inning, with the game tied at 3, West Virginia got a walk after a dropped pop up near home plate, a single and a bunt later loaded the bases with nobody out. A triple right in between Stephen Smith and Anthony Lyons scored 3 and West Virginia took a commanding 6-3 lead.
Stat of the Game
0-6. Tech went 0-6 at the plate with 2 outs in an inning. This season they have been able to score runs with 2 outs but could not today, blowing chances to get back into the game late.
Forgotten Play of the Game
Tech scored 2 runs in the 6th inning, but West Virginia made 2 fantastic catches to limit any damage that Tech could do. The center fielder made a great diving catch and the left fielder ran down a ball in the corner. Both catches saved at least 1 run, and probably more.
Big Reason Tech Lost the Game
The Red Raiders just could not score enough today, blowing opportunities to add runs multiple times. They went 8-19 in advancement opportunities and 2-9 with runners in scoring position. The Red Raiders will look to saty alive with a game against Oklahoma tomorrow afternoon.
