Texas Tech DB Nigel Bethel To Transfer

One of Texas Tech's top cover men is leaving the South Plains

Nigel Bethel was one of Texas Tech's top DBs, if not the top DB. Now, he's headed elsewhere. Bethel announced his intent to transfer today via Twitter.

Bethel finished the 2015 season with 12 passes broken up and 1 interception. He was routinely lined up on the opposition's best receiver, and came out of the 2015 season as the best pass defender in the Texas Tech secondary. Bethel was expected to be a key part of Texas Tech's 2016 defense, and will be sorely missed in our backfield going forward.

In terms of replacements, look for the cornerback position to begin rotating players nearly constantly. We'll see a whole bunch of Theirry Nguema, Tevin Madison sliding in between safety and corner, Paul Banks, and Justis Nelson in the future from a Red Raiders defense that has struggled to stop anything more than a strong nosebleed in the past.

Good luck to Bethel, wherever he lands.
