Texas Tech Recruiting Roundup, 4/6

With some big names gone, who else can Texas Tech land?

Here lately a lot of big-name Red Raider targets have been committing elsewhere. DB Kobe Boyce committed to Texas last week and newly offered DL Jayden Peevy committed to Baylor a few days ago. So who does Texas Tech target now? I'll take a look at 3 guys you may not have heard of but the Red Raider coaching staff has a close eye on.

Adam Beck | 6'2", 185 lbs | Defensive Back

George Ranch High School (Richmond, TX)

24/7  | Rivals | Scout

Texas Tech offered Beck last May and he now has 9 offers. Beck is from the Houston area which the Red Raiders have had recent success in recruiting. Speaking of Houston, they're one of his 9 offers along with other schools such as Kansas, Colorado and Boise State. Beck is listed as corner on some sites and safety on others. At 6'2" he has great size at corner to match up with Big 12 receivers but he can also play physical enough in space to be safety. To me he looks like a better fit at safety where he can play in the open field and use instinct to attack the ball.

Jaylin Nelson | 5'9", 180 lbs | Athlete QB/WR/CB

Duncanville High School (Duncanville, TX)

24/7  | Rivals | Scout

Jaylin Nelson is an interesting case. He transferred to Duncanville from DeSoto in 2015 but was declared ineligible last season after the UIL deemed his transfer sports related. He was able to play on JV though. I saw Nelson in action at The Opening Dallas Regional and there's no doubt he can sling the ball. He threw tight spirals and an accurate ball, but the only thing is his height. 24/7 has him at 5'8", Scout is 5'9" and Rivals has him at 5'10". I personally think he's closer to 5'9" so that brings to question, what position will he play in college? I see him stepping in at slot receiver or a nickel corner.

Brenden Jaimes | 6'6", 260 lbs | Offensive Line

Lake Travis High School (Austin, TX)

24/7  | Rivals | Scout

Texas Tech offered Jaimes early in March and he's now at 13 total offers. Some schools that have offered him include California, Colorado, Houston, Illinois and Nebraska. As you can see, he has a wide varying list of schools interested in him. At 6'6", 260 lbs he has the frame to play tackle in college and will likely add on some pounds to get closer to 285 lbs - 300 lbs. In watching his film below two words come to mind, athletic and relentless. He doesn't have that typical linemen build, he almost looks like a defensive end playing OT. I like what I see in Jaimes, let's see if Texas Tech can reel him in.

This recruiting cycle seems to be going along just like last years. You try to snag some big fish in the beginning and if you don't land any then no big deal. Last summer the coaching staff made their way throughout the state hosting regional camps and offered under the radar guys who showed out. I expect them to follow this strategy again for the 2017 class.
