This Past Week in Red Raider Baseball
Tech enjoyed a fantastic week, going 4-1 with a sweep of Kansas State after splitting a midweek road series in Las Vegas against UNLV. Senior 1st baseman Eric Gutierrez had a great week going 9-18 with 6 runs, 6 RBI's and 2 home runs. He leads the team with 11 doubles, 29 RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .590. Eric and Stephen Smith are the only players to have started every game this year. He also leads the team in hits by pitch and is a perfect 2-2 in stolen base attempts. All these statistics have been enough for Eric to be named co-Big 12 offensive player of the week, his first of the season. He also won this award once last year, and twice the year prior as a sophomore.

With the sweep over KSU, Tech is now 8-1 in conference play, their best start in Big 12 history. They are just a bad relief appearance in 1 game against Baylor from a perfect conference record. They have won 9 of their last 10 overall, including 7 straight conference games. On Monday, the "real" rankings came out, the ones used by the NCAA and published by D1 Baseball, with Tech now ranked #22. California, a team Tech split a pair of games with on the road is currently ranked #11, but no other opponent is currently in the top 25. Future conference opponents TCU (#10) and OSU (#23) are ranked however, and Oklahoma St is our next conference opponent.
Inside the Big 12
| Team | Overall | Home | Away | Conference |
| Texas Tech | 20-8 | 12-4 | 5-3 | 8-1 |
| TCU | 22-5 | 13-3 | 6-2 | 4-2 |
| Oklahoma St | 19-9 | 10-2 | 8-6 | 4-2 |
| West Virginia | 14-11 | 5-4 | 9-7 | 4-4 |
| Baylor | 13-14 | 10-10 | 3-4 | 3-3 |
| Texas | 12-16 | 9-11 | 3-5 | 3-3 |
| Oklahoma | 14-14-1 | 8-5 | 6-9 | 2-4 |
| Kansas | 10-15 | 8-6 | 1-6 | 1-4 |
| Kansas State | 12-17 | 8-9 | 2-6 | 0-6 |
As you can tell, only West Virginia has played as close to the same amount of conference games as we have, leading to us having twice as many conference wins as anyone else. However, we are the only ones to have lost only 1 Big 12 game. The conference opponents we have played are not exactly powerhouses so far this season, and we have big series coming up, starting with OSU this weekend.
TCU was in the College Classic with us in Houston and went 3-0, including a 7-1 win over Louisiana-Lafayette (a team we beat 5-3) and a 10-1 victory over Houston (a team we beat 3-2). In conference play they swept West Virginia at home but only took 1 of 3 against Texas in Austin. We will play in Ft Worth the last weekend of April.
Oklahoma St is our next Big 12 opponent, with a 3-game series set for this weekend in Stillwater. OSU played UTA early this season in the UTA Tournament, splitting 2 games (a team we beat 6-4 in Arlington). They swept Abilene Christian in Stillwater, who we are scheduled to play later this month. They did sweep Kansas st like we did, however this was in Manhattan.

This Week in Red Raider Baseball
This week won't be easy for Tech as we start the week off with a game tonight in Tallahassee, FL to face the 9th ranked Florida State Seminoles for 2 games. This midweek series was added recently as Coach Tadlock wanted to replace the 2 games that were cancelled due to weather against California. He understands that we need to strengthen our schedule as much as possible, and luckily Abilene Christian was gracious enough to reschedule our game with them in Midland to a later date. After facing FSU we travel to face #23 OSU in Stillwater. 5 games this week, all on the road, all against Top 25 teams. A big test that the program is looking to pass with flying colors. The games against Florida St will be streamed by FSU and can be found here.
