1. Red Raider of the Game
In the top of the 4th inning, Tanner Gardner hit a 2-out double to right, the first hit of the game for the Red Raiders. He would score the only run fo the game for Tech on a single by Raley later in the inning. It was one of only 4 hits in the game and marked the 20th straight game for Gardner to reach base safely.
2. Play That Impacted the Game
In the 8th inning, Nieporte of FSU was hit by a pitch. Then there was a walk, and 2 wild pitches later Nieporte crossed the plate. FSU would put 3 runs across in the 8th inning, really putting the game out of the reach of Tech.
3. Stat of the Game
4 hits were all Tech could manage in the game. All season, the talk has been about how the experienced lineup needed to make a difference in games this year, but Tech was shut down all game long.
4. Forgotten Play of the Game
In the 3rd inning, with FSU only up 1-0, the Seminoles had the bases loaded from a single, wild pitch and a walk with only 1 out. Freshman pitcher Eriksson Lanning was able to get out of the inning without any damage after a 3-pitch strikeout and a groundout. It was good to see Lanning battle back in a tough environment.
5. Big Reason Tech Lost the Game
With only 4 hits in the game, the offense didn't give the pitching staff much room for error, and they walked 10 batters plus hit another 3 as well as 3 wild pitches. There were also 2 throwing errors in the game. Overall, Tech just didn't have a good game against a top 10 team.
Game 2 is set for tomorrow at 5:00pm
