Tech Drops Opener to #23 Cal State Fullerton 7-3

Despite late rally, mistakes haunt Tech in loss

Nikopoia

Tech looked just a tad too hyped for this game as they struggled in all three phases of the game. Cal State Fullerton is no slouch despite their 4-3 record coming into the game and 0-3 record on the road.

1. Red Raider of the Game

Not a whole lot to pick from and what was just not a very good game from the Red Raiders. Eric Gutierrez gets the nod here going 2 for 3 on the night.

2. Play That Impacted the Game

Back to back walks by Moseley in the 5th put Fullerton in great position, already up 2-0. Fullerton wasted no time promptly doubling and then singling in runs to get Moseley removed from the game and a commanding 5-0 lead.

3. Stat of the Game

3 errors and 4 wild pitches leading to 3 unearned runs. Tech has to clean up the wild pitches especially if they look to return to Omaha.

4. Forgotten Play of the Game

Down 5-0 in the 6th inning, Tech had the bases loaded and threating with two outs and Tyler Neslony drives a deep fly ball to left, just shy of the track. Off the bat it sent a charge through the crowd thinking he may have just hit a Grand Slam that could have changed the complexion of the game.

5. Big Reason Tech Lost the Game

Ryan Moseley getting roughed up. I did a piece after his first outing about his mechanics and though Cal State Fullerton is better than their ranking and their record, in my opinion, Moseley didn't look good. The "ace" of the staff had his shortest outing of the season at 4 and 1/3 innings and once again could not get past the 5th inning. He has not gotten to the 6th inning in any of his starts today. For a Fullerton team hitting just .203 coming into the series, they hit Moseley rather well as his sinker didn't seem to be effective or well controlled.
