After a successful weekend in Houston, your Red Raider baseball team is back in action in Lubbock for 2 games against the Aggies of New Mexico State before a big weekend matchup with Cal State Fullerton. The Aggies are currently 5-2, with this series their first trip outside of Las Cruces.
They opened the season with a 3-game sweep of Towson followed by splitting 4 games against Maine this past weekend and currently sit 5-2. They are part of the WAC, having last won the WAC in 2012, which was also their last tournament appearance. This is head coach Brian Green's 2nd season, and after a less than stellar 11-38-1 season last year, the Aggies are looking to improve, especially after signing the 38th ranked class this past offseason, and are picked to finish 5th in the WAC this year.
The first game will be this evening at 6:30 at The Rip with the 2nd game Wednesday afternoon at 2:00pm. Although pitching matchups have not been announced, I would expect Matthew McHugh to start 1 game for the Aggies. On the Tech side of the mound Eriksson Lanning and Steven Gingery may be your starters, with Mosely, Damron, and Harpenau the current weekend pitchers.
Mason Fishback, a catcher out of Riverside, CA, leads the Aggies, hitting .500 in 4 games. Daniel Johnson, an outfielder from Vallejo, CA leads the team with 8 RBIs and currently has a slugging percentage of .667. I do not expect Tech to have much trouble with these 2 games, unless they look ahead to CSF this weekend, and make the same kind of mental mistakes that they did against Arkansas.
