Red Raiders Take Game 2 From Oklahoma, 6-1

Another great freshman pitching performance leads the Red Raiders over the Sooners

1. Red Raider of the Game

Freshman pitcher Steven Gingery had a terrific outing, going 7 innings, giving up only 1 run and 3 hits while striking out 6. Another great performance by a freshman starting pitcher in a conference game, which is becoming commonplace for the young pitching staff.

2. Play That Impacted the Game

A pair of singles followed by 3 straight walks in the 5th put 3 runs on the board as Tech would take a 5-0 lead midway through the game, giving Gingery some insurance runs. The Red Raiders would take advantage for the 2nd game in a row of an Oklahoma pitcher who got in trouble with men on base.

3. Stat of the Game

Unfortunately, Tech would strand 9 runners on base, and although it didn't hurt them tonight, it is becoming way too common, and is going to come back to haunt them in tougher games down the road.

4. Forgotten Play of the Game

After OU scored a run to cut the lead to 5-1 in the 6th inning, Stephen smith would lead off the bottom half of the inning with a deep shot to left field. As we said in the podcast this week, Stephen isn't on scholarship to bunt, and The Bull would use his power to tack on a answering run.

5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game

Tech would use only 2 pitchers tonight, allowing only 1 run and 5 hits. So far, Oklahoma has scored 1 run in 18 innings against Tech, who claim the series victory on a Friday night. The large amount of runners left on base is alarming, and something we don't want to see, but when you're 4-1 in conference you tend to start picking at the little things.

Tech will look to sweep the Sooners out of Lubbock tomorrow at 2:00pm.
