1. Red Raider of the Game
Davis Martin. Another shutout of a conference opponent, Davis went 6 innings, allowing only 3 hits and no walks. The freshman has been tremendous his past 2 starts, and gives the rotation a fantastic Friday night pitcher (even when it's Thursday).
2. Play That Impacted the Game
OU ace Alec Hansen is expected to be a rock for the Sooner's rotation, be picked high in the upcoming draft, and can throw at over 100 mph. Yet he wouldn't get out of the 1st inning, walking 4 straight batters after an RBI single by Gute which quickly put Tech ahead 4-0.
3. Stat of the Game
Davis Martin and Hayden Howard would combine to pitch the full game, compiling 12 strikeouts in the game.
4. Forgotten Play of the Game
After a couple walks and a single, OU loaded the bases in the 9th with 2 outs and a shot at putting runs on the board. Howard had struggled a bit in the inning and there was talk if he would be kept out to try and get the 3rd out. Domenic Derenzo would go down on 3 straight strikes to end the game and push the Red raiders to 3-1 in Big 12 play.
5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game
Opportunistic offense (seems to be a common trend in our wins) and a great pitching performance led Tech to a great win over a team that was picked to finish 1 spot higher than them in the conference this year. They were able to get to the OU pitcher while limiting pitches for their own pitchers. Seeing zeros across the board for the opponent is a great confidence booster going further into conference play.
Game 2 will be Friday at 6:30pm, with Game 3 on Saturday at 2:00pm
