Texas Tech Recruiting Roundup, 1/27

Who are some surprises that could sign with Texas Tech? I'll tell you.

National Signing Day is now only one week away and Texas Tech still sits at 26 commits. One good thing is that Jett Duffey, Derrick Willies, Jonathan Picone, and De'Quan Bowman are all already on campus. That leaves Texas Tech with 22 recruits expected to sign on February 3rd, but then again some guys could potentially flip their commitments. There are a few other recruits who could end up being Red Raiders and I'll take a look at them this week.

Douglas Coleman | 6'1", 175 lbs | Athlete WR/DB

Zachary High School (Zachary, LA)

24/7: 82 | Rivals: 3-Star | Scout: 3-Star

Douglas Coleman is a late target that Texas Tech has its eyes firmly locked on. It may have been with the help of new RB coach Jabbar Juluke who came from Louisiana Tech. According to 24/7, Texas Tech is pursuing Coleman as a corner back. As a wide receiver Coleman had 62 catches for 1,482 yards and 15 touchdowns in his senior season. Last week Coleman visited Tulane and committed a day after his visit. On 1/25 Texas Tech extended an offer to Coleman after showing a lot of interest in him over the past few weeks. It looks like Coleman is sit to visit Lubbock this coming weekend so keep an eye out on him potentially flipping his commitment to the Red Raiders.

Lil'Jordan Humphrey | 6'5", 200 lbs | Athlete RB/WR

Carroll High School (Southlake, TX)

24/7: 87 | Rivals: 3-Star | Scout: 4-Star

It was reported last week that Humphrey had narrowed his decision down to Texas and Texas Tech, but he also visited Wisconsin last weekend. So to me, it looks like he has a top 3. Humphrey has visited Austin a few times and the coaching staff is heavily pursuing him, so as of right now I would put them as his favorite. Humphrey played running back in high school but he's expected to move out to wide receiver in college. It's interesting though because Wisconsin has a tradition of big powerful running backs so the Badgers could be recruiting him as an RB. I would imagine that Texas Tech is going after Humphrey as a wide receiver. In his senior season, Humphrey had 184 rushes for 1,292 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also showed off his receiving skills with 57 catches for 876 yards and 8 touchdowns. Keep an eye out because Humphrey will be making his decision January 30th.

Yasir Durant | 6'7", 335 lbs | Offensive Line

Imhotep Institute (Philadelphia, PA)

24/7: 80 | Rivals: 2-Star | Scout: 3-Star

Yasir Durant is an interesting case. You don't see Texas Tech going after many recruits in the northeast but the coaches must've saw something they liked. Texas Tech extended an offer to Durant back in November and have been showing him more interest as of late. The Red Raiders are still looking for at least one more offensive line commit and Durant could be it. It looks like it's down to Texas Tech, Rutgers and San Diego St. Of the three, Rutgers appears to be pursuing him the most and he visited San Diego St last week. It looked as though Durant would be visiting Lubbock this weekend but 24/7 reported yesterday that he will in fact not be making the trip to west Texas. It could be that he already has his mind made up or a logistics thing since Philadelphia to Lubbock isn't the easiest trip to plan.

As it gets closer to NSD things start to heat up and you see players flipping their commitments or surprise commitments from off the radar recruits. VTM will have everything covered for you. We'll have a stream for NSD and we'll be putting out a special National Signing Day podcast on February 4th with some special guests joining us to talk about the 2016 class so make sure you check it out!
