Janine Beckie Selected 8th Overall in the National Women's Soccer League Draft

Emerging soccer program starting to make its mark on pro soccer as well

Janine Beckie has been selected 8th overall by the Houston Dash, in this years NWSL draft and is the second Red Raider in as many years to be a Top 10 pick. Jaelene Hinkle was selected 7th overall in last years draft.

Beckie was a three time all-american and is Tech's all-time leading scorer with 57 goals. In 2015, she ranked 18th nationally with 14 goals.

"I am incredibly blessed with this opportunity," Said Beckie. "I can't thank Randy and his staff enough for taking a chance on me and believing in my abilities. My biggest thank you has got to go to everyone at Texas Tech who have made all of this possible for me. Words cannot express how grateful I am for what everyone there has given me and the places Tom and his staff have taken me. Texas Tech changed my life and I cannot wait to start my professional career in a state that that has a very special place in my heart. Dash on!"

Coming on the heels of a banner year for the Red Raider soccer program, including a Big 12 championship and a birth in the NCAA tournament, Beckie joins a Dash team led by Carli Lloyd of the National Women's Team.
