Football Funday! So yesterday was a pretty fun day of football. This playoff thing just might work.
Ward Signed by Cincinnati. Congrats to former Red Raider footballer WR Eric Ward who was signed to the Cincinnati Bengal's practice squad yesterday. Very happy for him.
Must Reads
Fehoko Top Five on White Team. The Under Armour All-American teams are broken down by the White team, which Breiden Fehoko is on, and the Black team. Fehoko was one of the top ten performers (actually he was top five) for the White team according to Scout:
When you see Fehoko, you see strength, violence, and attitude. He brought it each day and he was wrecking havoc in the trenches. He played with good, consistent leverage controlling the guy in front him, and consistently getting penetration.
Johnson Top Ten on Black Team. Meanwhile, on the Black team, Texas Tech target WR Tyron Johnson was the ninth best player according to Scout:
Johnson -- who is an electric playmaker -- was solid all week at receiver. He showed strong hands and the ability to catch the ball in traffic against tight coverages numerous times throughout the practices. He went against top corners each day and he was able to get open and make a play on the ball. All three practices he was good and consistent.
Johnson is set to decide during today's game (see below for open thread) and is down to Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and LSU. The option of LSU is something that was a bit strange this week as a Times-Picayune writer stated that Johnson was down to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, but then Johnson was interviewed and said he was still considering a top five consisting of those three programs as well as Georgia and Auburn. That same writer affirmed yesterday evening that Johnson was down to TTU and OSU, but was still predicting Johnson's commitment to LSU:
The state's top prospect, Warren Easton wide receiver Tyron Johnson has been sensational at the Under Armour All-America Game practices and remains scheduled to announce during the fourth quarter of the game. LSU remains in his top group and I still expect the Tigers to land his signature, but recruiting is always capable of hitting you with the unexpected.
With that said, Johnson told Rivals.com this week that his top two schools were Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, but I'm not stepping away from my long time stance of the Tigers landing his commitment.
On top of that list was QB Kyler Murray, who is said to be reconsidering his commitment to TAMU and possibly considering the Sooners as it appears that the Sooners may have some quarterback issues and with Chad Allen performing so well against West Virginia, this may not bode well for the Aggies.
Open Threads. I should also mention that MikeTTU has an open thread for the UA game that goes up at 3:00 pm and I'll have an open thread for the bowl games 10:00 am. You may want to pay attention to the Houston vs. Pittsburgh game that starts at 11:00 am and is being played in Ft. Worth as possible Texas Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs is the acting head coach for Houston and is a strong candidate to be named as Texas Tech's defensive coordinator.
