Open Thread | 2013 Texas Tech Football National Signing Day

This is the first National Signing Day for Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

National Signing Day is upon us and things usually get started pretty early in the morning. For now, consider this your open thread for some period of time and I'll create a new post for noon. The players listed below are the players that are considering Texas Tech and have recently visited Lubbock. I do not think that each and every one of these players have offers.

There is a second group of players that were considering Texas Tech , but from everything I have read are expected to sign with another college.

The third and final group of players is the list of every player that is currently committed to Texas Tech. I suppose you might see some surprises, so as mentioned before, I'll update this story or do a story stream.

Let's get to some links:

SB Nation has your Big 12 preview and all of national stories.

Don't forget that the official site will have a live show on TexasTech.TV until noon and on the front page they'll do a Cover-It-Live where they'll probably announce the signings as the come in.

LAJ's Don Williams and Landon Wright write about the current group of commits. The LAJ will also have their own Cover-It-Live, but you know you want to be here.

DMN's Mike Graham lists his top five commits and any list without WR Dylan Cantrell is invalid.

Wall RB Grant Eubank is going to walk-on at Texas Tech (link). Eubank was the district's MVP and you can read about Eubank in the San Angelo Times. You can watch Eubank tear up defenses here. Eubank ran for 2,271 yards and 39 touchdowns this year for Wall.

I wanted to address a couple of things in the table. There's no question that head coach Kliff Kingsbury had to really work to put together this class. All things considered, I'm really happy with the group of players that he's assembled. Sure, he's lost out on some players, but give him and this staff more than a month to get ready for National Signing day and I think Kingsbury and his coaches will be just fine.

What we do know is that some of the players that are here had to sit out last year. Based on nothing more than just me doing what I want to do, I've included DT J.J. Loller in the group of signees. Loller committed last year, but due to an eye condition, Loller had to sit out all of last year, helped his A&M Consolidated coaches coach up the high school team and get his eye corrected. It never bothers me if a kid commits to a coach rather than a school, but Loller committed to Texas Tech, there's no doubt about that. I'd also add that there's a lot of folks talking about Baylor commit Andrew Billings and his ability to squat 700 pounds. Well, Loller did that. Oh, and add about 80 pounds to that total.

WR Peyton Williams was a Colorado commit last year that ended up greyshirting like Loller. Williams hurt his leg late in his high school career at Southlake Carroll even though he put up terrific numbers for 90% of the season. I don't know if Williams is on campus just yet, but I am sure he will be. There is a need at inside receiver as there were a handful of receivers that graduated last year. There will need to be some depth and competition and Williams certainly provides that.

QB Davis Webb released his senior film earlier this week and he's really matured over the course of his junior to senior year. I really like his form, he's consistently setting up nicely in the pocket and he keeps his arm up. He has a pretty good deep ball, but you can see where he will have to work on his arm strength a bit. Still, there's a lot to like, and as did QB Michael Brewer was able to be at Texas Tech the spring of his senior year of high school, Webb will get the same opportunity and will benefit greatly from the experience.
