Texas Tech Recruiting Roundup, 4/20

The Red Raider coaching staff has extended a few more scholarship offers here recently, let's take a look at the recruits.

The spring game was going to be a big recruiting tool last weekend, but unfortunately it was cancelled for weather precautions. Although this would've been nice, it doesn't necessarily kill any recruiting efforts. The guys who really want to check out Lubbock and see what Texas Tech football is about will find a way to visit at some point. Even though the spring game cancellation dampened things, the 2017 recruiting trail is starting to pick up. This week I will check out 3 newly offered recruits.

Bronson Boyd | 6'3", 185 lbs | Wide Receiver

The Oakridge School (Arlington, TX)

24/7  | Rivals | Scout

Texas Tech offered Bronson Boyd back on April 7th and he has since picked up 4 other offers from Houston, Utah, Arizona and Boise State. You can see that the Red Raiders have some competition on their hands to land the talented wide out. Last season Boyd had 60 catches for 1,143 years and 8 touchdowns at The Oakridge School which is a private school in Arlington, TX. Boyd can get it done from inside or out but you'd have to think he'd play outside at Tech. One key attribute for Boyd is that he attacks the ball and snags it at its highest point.

Brock Martin | 6'3", 220 lbs | Defensive End

Oologah High School (Oologah, OK)

24/7 NR | Rivals NR | Scout

Brock Martin has compiled some jaw-dropping numbers his past two seasons. In 2014 as a sophomore he had 189 tackles, 17 sacks and 21 TFL. For 2015 he racked up 96 tackles and 17 sacks after missing the first 5 games with a knee injury. Martin and his family visited Texas Tech a few weeks back so I thought an offer might come his way pretty soon and it did on 4/18. As of right now his only two offers are from Wyoming and Texas Tech but I expect that to change when teams start to hear about the types of numbers he's put up. If I had to sum up Martin in one word it'd be "explosive", see for yourself below.

Devodrick Johnson | 6'2", 210 lbs | Athlete QB/S

Kimball High School (Dallas, TX)

24/7 NR | Rivals NR | Scout NR

I know I covered Johnson last week but I wanted to give him his due since he picked up a scholarship offer. He was set to visit last weekend but that didn't happen because of the spring game cancellation. Johnson did however pick up an offer yesterday which makes you think he probably would've been offered this past weekend. Here's my notes from last week: "Watch the film below and ask yourself, what other quarterback can lay the wood like this guy does when he's playing safety. I'm a big fan of this guy and would for sure like to see him playing safety for Texas Tech one day. Johnson reminds me a lot of what Byron Eaton did at Dallas Lincoln back in the day when he started at safety and quarterback. After he's coached up on strictly one side of the ball (defense), he'll be good to go."

As I mentioned, even with the spring game cancellation things are starting to heat up on the recruiting front. It'll be interesting to see how the coaching staff manages the camps scheduled for this summer and what players can make it up to Lubbock.
