Texas Tech Beats Texas in Game 1, 13-6

Red Raiders use 13 unanswered runs to down Texas on a Friday night

1. Red Raider of the Game

Senior outfielder Tyler Neslony was great tonight, starting out with an RBI in the 4th. He ended up with 2 hits and 5 RBI's, including a big double in the 7-run 7th inning. He also had a 2-run double in the 5th to cut the Horns lead to 5-4, and then scored to tie the game on Gute's triple.

2. Play That Impacted the Game

Hunter Hargrove came in to pinch hit for Ryan Long in the 7th with the bases loaded and sent the ball to center, scoring 2. Although Tech did have a 2-run lead at that point, 4 runs is a lot better. It's good to see Hunter be able to come in and deliver when needed, even if it wasn't necessarily needed tonight.

3. Stat of the Game

7. The Red Raiders scored 7 runs in the 7th inning, won by 7 runs, and Tech's seniors accounted for 7 hits, 7 runs, and 7 RBI's. It was a great night for the seniors against a Big 12 opponent, and an in-state rival.

4. Forgotten Play of the Game

Forgotten in a 13-run game was the way starter Davis Martin recovered from a bad 2nd and 3rd inning. After spotting Texas 5 runs, he struck out the side in both the 5th and the 6th innings, striking out 7 overall. The young pitcher didn't panic, knowing what his offense can do.

5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game

After falling down by 5 early, Tech came back to tie it up over 2 innings, and never looked back, breaking out the bats with 13 unanswered runs. TCU lost tonight, so Tech was able to gain a game on them as well as keeping pace with OSU. They ended up with 3 doubles and 3 triples as well as shutting down the Horns while forcing them to go to their bullpen early in a big series. Game 2 has a scheduled first pitch at 2:07pm, and will be aired on FSSW+
