It appears that after only a few hours, a head coach candidate has emerged for the Red Raiders.
Chris Beard is the leading candidate to replace Tubby Smith at Texas Tech, source told BR. Beard has $1 million buyout in his UNLV contract.

Why Tech is better (for Beard) than UNLV: pays more, better league, MUCH better current team, 10 years as Tech asst, 3 daughters live close

Chris Beard recently accepted the UNLV head coaching job after leading Arkansas-Little Rock to a 30-5 season and a first round upset of Purdue in the NCAA tournament. Beard of course spent a good amount of time at Texas Tech where he honed his coaching skills.
Another name being thrown out is Texas Tech alum, Darvin Ham.
I appreciate the love from #RedRaiderNation I would love to return to Lubbock and will strongly consider it if asked #WreckEm

Many Texas Tech students and alum have thrown Ham's name out there but nothing from any reporters has come to surface yet. Ham was an outstanding player for the Red Raiders and has been coaching in the NBA D-League and NBA, he is currently an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks.
