Last year was an ugly year for Texas Tech football. In fact, as far as the win-loss record, it was the ugliest year since 1990. A lot has been written regarding the weaknesses of the 2014 team. Turnovers, Penalties, and Rush defense seem to make the list more often than not. If you had to put your finger on the single biggest factor that led Tech to a 4-8 season, what would it be? Turnovers? More often than not I hear "turnovers" and "penalty yards," but these 3 graphs might change your mind:
Based on the data in the graph. It appears that the rush defense or lack thereof has the closest correlation with the win-loss record. Obviously, we all know you can't just pick out one factor and blame everything on it. Clearly Tech was bad in all three categories, nevertheless Rush defense might have had more of an impact than the other 2.
The good news is, the rush defense improved by 83.29 yards per game between 2011 and 2012. If it can happen once, it can happen again!
