Texas Tech, Big 12 Previews & Predictions: Week 12

We over Big 12 Week 12 action!

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Raiders are going bowling!!!! No matter what you think of how this season has gone, let’s all stop and celebrate the fact that we will have postseason football again on the High Plains! Was this past weekend’s win against Kansas State perfect? Heck no. Should that dampen the good feelings of a win that made Tech bowl eligible? HECK NO! Celebrate this win, Tech fans. There is still the big game against Texas on Thanksgiving night. Tech could beat UT that night and end the Longhorns’ run at a bowl game. That is something to look forward too. Also, multiple outlets are reporting that Tech could meet up against an old rival for a bowl game. I’m going to test your Tech knowledge for the hint on who that team is. The butt of "Soapsuds" on the Will Rogers statue is aimed at that college town…

If you want to be the guest picker for next week, comment or tweet @ConnerCrisp your score prediction for Baylor-Oklahoma State. Whoever is closest to choosing the winning margin wins. Ties are decided by me. Check back to this article Monday night and I will have the winner announced by 10 PM.

Last week was a pretty good pick week for me. I went 5-0. The VTM readers had the week off. Shanefinity was the only VTM reader to choose the Red Raiders to win and is the guest picker this week! Congrats Shane for keeping the faith! You others…

Conner Overall: 46-9 (.836)

VTM Guest Pickers: 33-7 (.825)

West Virginia Mountaineers (5-4 Overall, 2-4 Big 12) at Kansas Jayhawks (0-10 Overall, 0-7 Big 12)

Memorial Stadium; Lawrence, KS; 11:00AM

West Virginia can continue to impact the College Football Playoff with a win over Kansas. No, I’m not writing this after drinking a few too many Landsharks. The College Football Playoff committee has said that that strength of schedule does play a big part in their minds for the top 4 teams. With a win over this dreadful Kansas team, that would make WVU one more bowl eligible team that the Big 12 hopeful team would have a win over. At the end of the day, fans of Big 12 teams should root for the Big 12 team to have a representative in the CFP. Being the only Power 5 without a representative two years into the new format would further decrease the Big 12’s standing in the eyes of national pundits… Mountaineers 38, Jayhawks 10

Shanefinity's Pick: West Virginia 42, Kansas 14

Iowa State Cyclones (3-7 Overall, 2-5 Big 12) at Kansas State Wildcats (3-6 Overall, 0-6 Big 12)

Bill Snyder Family Stadium; Manhattan, KS; 11:00AM; Fox Sports 1

I have no idea why this game is nationally televised. In the other Big 12 11AM game you have a team go for a win that would make them bowl eligible in WVU. Here you have one team that is not going to a bowl game, and one that probably won’t be. The best reason I can think to watch this game is to watch two head coaches who, probably, don’t have many more seasons left. One who has only games left… Wildcats 27, Cyclones 14

Shanefinity's Pick: Kansas State 31, Iowa State 28

#10 Baylor Bears (8-1 Overall, 5-1 Big 12) at Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-0 Overall, 7-0 Big 12) Game of the Week

Boone-Pickens Stadium; Stillwater, OK; 6:30PM; FOX

I really don’t know what to expect in this game. After that BIG hit in the first quarter, Baylor QB Jarrett Stidham just did not look the same. In their first matchup against a top tier team, Baylor was not up for the challenge. But they still scored 34 against a good Sooner defense. For the Cowboys, I still remember a team that was on the ropes against Texas Tech. Maybe that plays to a "resiliency factor" for OK-State? This is the toughest game I’ve had to pick all season… Bears 45, Cowboys 52

Shanefinity's Pick: Baylor 45, Oklahoma State 35

#15 TCU Horned Frogs (9-1 Overall, 6-1 Big 12) at #7 Oklahoma Sooners (9-1 Overall, 6-1 Big 12)

Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium; Norman, OK; 7:00PM; ABC

The Sooners are playing better than any team in the nation right now. Period. That loss to Texas could truly come back to haunt them. However, I think that if they beat a top 15 ranked TCU team and can beat an undeafeated, or one loss, Oklahoma State team, they should be in. Plus, Oklahoma is a pretty big brand name. You have to be crazy to tell me that brand names don’t get a nice bump, (cough one loss Alabama, and Notre Dame [Herbstreit even said so about ND] over undefeated teams cough). Injuries are finally starting to catch up with TCU and I think the are going to run into lots of trouble in a crazy Norman atmosphere… Horned Frogs 27, Sooners 42

Shanefinity's Pick: Oklahoma 49, TCU 35

Off: Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas Longhorns
