Texas Tech Recruiting Roundup, 11/18

Texas Tech lands commit number 25.

Last night the Red Raiders landed their 25th commit in DB Desmon Smith.

Smith originally committed to Texas State in June and at the time I was wondering how he managed to slip away from Tech since he was right in their backyard in Odessa. He would later decommit at the end of August and the Red Raiders extended Smith an offer in early October.

The Red Raiders had been showing Smith a lot of love lately and I was starting to have a good feeling he'd be coming Tech's way. Smith attended the Kansas State game this past weekend and that seems to have sealed the deal.

Smith is a big defensive back at 6'3" and 191 pounds. This will for sure help since the Big 12 has some big bodied receivers throughout the conference. Smith is a ballhawk, he goes up and fights for the ball just like a receiver. His highlights below are from his junior year and you can see him playing some receiver as well. This is great because the old saying is "they play defense for a reason" when a defensive player drops an interception. With his experience on both sides of the ball, Smith will be able to make the proper adjustments to the ball and come down with some interceptions. This is a Gibbs' guy who will be accountable for some turnovers.
