The Lady Raiders (10-2, 0-0) play the TCU Horned Frogs (8-3, 0-0) to start Big12 Conference play this afternoon at 4pm CST in the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, TX. This will be the 44th meeting between these two teams and the 6th match-up since TCU became a member of the Big12 Conference. Tech leads the series 39-4 but has lost the last three games against the Horned Frogs. If the Lady Raiders win today it will be Head Coach Candi Whitaker's 100th career win.
Emphasis on the "Charity Stripe" by Head Coach Raegan Pebley with a goal of 80% per game has the TCU Horned Frogs with a very good weapon against their opponents. Three of the TCU player, Zahna Medley, Chelsea Prince, Veja Hamilton, Donielle Breaux, are currently shooting 80 percent or higher and all rank in the top 10 in the Big 12. (Medley 2nd 90.5%; Prince 4th 88.1%, Breaux 7th 80%). The starters for TCU today will be Junior Guard #3 Veja Hamilton, who averages 7.9 ppg and 3.6 rpg. The interesting thing about Hamilton is she enrolled in TCU at the age of 16 and is only 18 years of age. One of the leaders of this team, Senior Forward #4 Chelsea Prince who averages 10.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg and is currently ranked 2nd in the Big12 in Steals with 33 so far this season for an average of 3 steals/game. Junior Guard #14 Zahna Medley earns over 17.1 ppg, and over 3.7 Assists per game. Senior Forward #24 Natalie Ventress has had great games against the Lady Raiders with an average of 15.6 ppg in the last three meetings against Tech. So far this season Ventress averages 10.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg. Senior Guard #33 Donielle Breaux averages 11.2 ppg and 5.7 rpg and is ranked 11th currently in the Big 12 standings with 26 Steals this season.
The Starters for today's game are: Sophomore Guard #3 Minta Spears who is averaging 10.7 ppg and is 82.5% accurate at the charity stripe and is currently ranked1st in the Big 12 standings for 3-Pt FG% with 55.1% (27-49); Junior (transfer) Guard #11 Rayven Brooks had 7.4 points and 3.8 rebounds and is currently ranked 10th in the Big12 standings for Blocked Shots with 11 blocks in the 12 pre-conference games; Freshman Forward #32 Dayo Olabode at 6'2" had 9.3 ppg and 6.1 rebounds and 2 Assists and is currently 15th in the Big12 with an average of 6 rebounds per games (73 total in the pre-conference games); Senior Forward #41 Kelsi Baker averages 10.2 ppg and 5.7 rebounds and is ranked 11th in the Big12 standing in both Offensive Rebounds (2.5/game) and FT% at 71% (44-62); and Senior Guard #12 Amber Battle who averages 16.3 ppg and 8.8 rebounds.
