Baseball America ranked Texas Tech #5 in their first preseason poll of the year, the highest preseason ranking that I've seen thus far for Texas Tech and head coach Tim Tadlock. Baseball America also has this cool preview and cover page, it's like a video, and on the full screen full of Texas Tech highlights with a preview if you click to the right. I think I sat on this page for a good 10 minutes watching those highlights from last year. Here's a portion of the preview:
Texas Tech came out of nowhere in 2014, going from a 26-30 record the previous year to a College World Series appearance, the program's first ever, in coach Tim Tadlock's second season at the helm. The Red Raiders still may not have the pedigree of other contenders in the Big 12, but they should have some staying power thanks to a returning core from their CWS team.
The Red Raiders' lineup takes on Tadlock's blue-collar style, grinding competitive at-bats throughout and ranking 21st in the country with 260 walks a season ago. Physical first baseman Eric Gutierrez returns as the lineup's anchor, along with fellow all-Big 12 selection Tim Proudfoot, who turned down the Athletics as a 21st round pick to come back for his senior year.
Go check it out. Very cool.
And for those of you wanting to watch Patrick Mahomes pitch, he'll be on the mound during a scrimmage tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
#TexasTech RHP/OF Patrick Mahomes will throw for the 1st time in a baseball scrimmage tomorrow - 1st pitch at 4 p.m.
