Last weekend was an interesting weekend for the Red Raiders. Darreon Jackson decommitted from the program, Semisi Uluave loved his official visit and Lonzell Gilmore stated that it was one of the best times of his life. This week, Tech has 5 of it's commits visiting, one of the Top Athletes in the Nation and Tech's Top Linebacker prospect.
The Commits:
Madison Akamnonu - Offensive Tackle (Bowie HS, Arlington, TX)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Shuttle | Vertical | Power Throw | Ratings |
6'6" | 269 lbs | 5.20 | 4.59 | 26.8" | 32' | 93 (247), 81 (ESPN), 5.7 (Rivals), 4-star (Scout) |
Madison Akamnonu will be taking his lone official visit this weekend when he visits Texas Tech this weekend. He did visit OU in July for an unofficial visit. Madison committed to Texas Tech back in August over the Sooners and has been committed to the Red Raiders since. Kliff Kingsbury visited Akamnonu last week and he went to twitter to express his excitement. Now he's finally visiting Lubbock. I don't see him decommitting, but then again Jackson did so this past week. The fact that he's been committed for so long makes me think that he won't be disappointed by the visit.
Corey Dauphine - Running Back (Memorial, Port Arthur, TX)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Vertical | Power Throw | Ratings |
6'1" | 185 lbs | 4.40 | 28.8" | 32.5' | 94 (247), 80 (ESPN), 5.7 (Rivals), 4-star (Scout) |
Corey Dauphine will be taking his 3rd official visit, this time visiting Lubbock. He visited Washington State and Tennessee before shutting down his recruitment and fully committing to Texas Tech. He was also planning to visit Baylor and Texas A&M, but I don't remember if he ended up doing so. Dauphine was the 1st commitment of his class, and even though he considering committing somewhere else at one points, he's still a Red Raider. Dauphine will get time to know some of his offensive linemen on this trip and hopefully forms a good relationship with them. This gives him time to bound with some of his teammates.
Jonathan Giles - Athlete (Fort Elkins, Missouri City, TX)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Shuttle | Vertical | Bench | Squat | Ratings |
5'11" | 175 lbs | 4.50 | 4.44 | 34.1" | 225 lbs | 375 lbs | 86 (247), 77 (ESPN), 5.6 (Rivals), 3-star (Scout) |
Jonathan Giles will be taking his lone official visit this weekend when he heads to Lubbock this weekend. Giles has not unofficially visited any other schools and won't take anymore visits. He also received a visit from Mike Jinks this past week. Giles has been committed since May 10th, two days after he received an offer from Texas Tech. He did well his Senior year and Elkins HS and will be headed to Lubbock this year. He'll have a chance to meet his future teammates this weekend when several commits come and visit. His recruitment has slowed down since he committed, so I doubt he goes anywhere else.
Courtney Wallace - Defensive Tackle (Neville, Monroe, LA)
Height | Weight | Shuttle | Power Throw | Ratings |
6'2" | 309 lbs | 4.99 | 34' | 83 (247), 75 (ESPN), 5.4 (Rivals), 3-Star (Scout) |
Courtney Wallace will be taking his lone official visit this weekend when he travels to the Hub City. He hasn't unofficially visited any other schools and doesn't plan to. Courtney committed to Tech in October after talking to the Red Raiders for a long time. Tech was his only Power 5 offer and had been constantly recruiting him. Now he gets to finally visit campus and take in the Lubbock experience. There are a few things to note here. 1) He's finally going to meet Breiden Fehoko in person, whom he'll likely share the D-line with. 2) He can share his experiences with Tech target (and teammate) KaVontae Turpin, who is visiting next weekend after visiting TCU this weekend. 3) Louisiana Lafayette talked to him recently, so just something to keep an eye on. Hopefully Wallace enjoys his visit.
Trace Ellison - Offensive Tackle (Centennial HS, Frisco, TX)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Shuttle | Squat | Ratings |
6'6" | 285 lbs | 5.23 | 4.61 | 485 lbs | 83 (247), 75 (ESPN), 5.5 (Rivals), 3-star (Scout) |
Trace Ellison will be making his lone official visit this weekend when he visits Lubbock. He took a couple trips to Texas Tech before (including one when he committed), so he's familiar with the campus. Also, Trace has connections with Texas Tech, which probably makes him like Tech even more. As far as I'm concerned, this will be the first time he visits as a commit. He'll get to know fellow Offensive Linemen Madison Akamnonu and Cody Wheeler while he's there too. He could play beside them in the future. Hopefully the visit will go well and he has a great time in Raiderland.
D'Vonta Hinton - Linebacker (Texas City HS, Texas City, TX)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Shuttle | Vertical | Power Throw | Bench | Squat | Ratings |
5'10" | 215 lbs | 4.56 | 4.50 | 33.2" | 37' | 335 lbs | 485 lbs | 82 (247), 77 (ESPN), 5.5 (Rivals), 3-star (Scout) |
D'Vonta Hinton will take his lone official visit this weekend when he visits Texas Tech. His only other visit to Lubbock was during the Spring Game, when he committed a day after the event. Zac Spavital visited the Linebacker this past week. Now he's visiting Lubbock for the first time since he committed to the Red Raiders. I don't think Hinton will decommit, especially after getting this haircut. Plus, he hasn't get any recent interest lately besides Texas Tech. This trip will give him a chance to meet his fellow commits in person, including three one of the defensive side of the football (Washington, Fehoko, Wallace). Also, he could be talking to fellow Linebacker Arthur McGinnis while on the trip. Hope he has a good trip to Lubbock.
Broderick Washington - Defensive Tackle (Longview HS, Longview, TX)
Height | Weight | Ratings |
6'2" | 290 lbs | 85 (247), 74 (ESPN), 5.4 (Rivals), 3-star (Scout) |
Broderick Washginton will be taking his lone official visit this weekend when he visits the Red Raiders. I don't recall him taking an other visits. Washington committed to Tech shortly after they offered in September. The Coaching staff saw him during a summer camp in Longview and apparently liked him enough to offer him as a Defensive Tackle a few months later. Now Washington is finally visiting Lubbock this weekend. He'll get a chance to meet to fellow Defensive Tackles and get to take in the atmosphere at Texas Tech. I don't think Washington has had an other interest since his commitment and likely will sign with the Red Raiders in a week and a half.
Cody Wheeler - Offensive Guard (Allen HS, Allen, TX)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Shuttle | Vertical | Ratings |
6'4" | 285 lbs | 5.52 | 4.75 | 26.6" | 78 (247), 70 (ESPN), 5.4 (Rivals), 3-star (Scout) |
Cody Wheeler will be taking his lone official visit this year this weekend to Texas Tech. It looks like he doesn't plan to take another official visit this year. Wheeler just committed to Texas Tech on Tuesday just after getting an offer from the Red Raiders. Kliff Kingsbury visited Wheeler last week when visiting Allen HS. His parents went to Texas Tech and it appears that he's been waiting for an offer. Now he's set to become a Red Raiders and will visit this weekend. This will give him a chance to meet some of his fellow commitments for the first time and form relationships with them. Congrats to Wheeler and hope his visit goes well.
Football Recruits:
Chris Warren III - Athlete (Rockwall HS, Rockwall HS, TX)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Vertical | Ratings |
6'2" | 232 lbs | 4.46 | 33" | 96 (247), 83 (ESPN), 5.9 (Rivals), 4-star (Scout) |
Chris Warren III will be taking his 3rd official visit when he visits Texas Tech this weekend. Chris visited Texas in December (which many consider the favorite), Oklahoma State last weekend and will visit Washington next weekend. Chris will decide on National Signing Day between those four schools. The big reason why Tech is still in it is the fact that Tech had a 1,000 yard rusher last season. Warren will have the chance to come in a make an impact for the Red Raiders. For this visit to go well, Chris will need to enjoy the campus and get along with the players. It also helps that Tech has 3 linemen commit visiting this weekend, including 4-star Madison Akamnonu. Hopefully they can persuade the 4-star Athlete to choose Tech.
Arthur McGinnis - Linebacker (Warren Easton HS, New Orleans, LA)
Height | Weight | 40 time | Shuttle | Vertical | Bench | Squat | Ratings |
6'2" | 228 lbs | 4.47 | 4.15 | 37" | 360 lbs | 560 lbs | 86 (247), 79 (ESPN), 5.8 (Rivals), 3-star (Scout) |
Arthur McGinnis will be making his 2nd official visit this weekend to the Hub City. He visited Arizona last weekend and will visit Oklahoma next weekend. Georgia and Texas A&M round out his Top 5. This visit kind of came as a surprise for Texas Tech fans, who didn't think McGinnis would schedule a visit to Tech so late in the process. Good to hear that McGinnis is visiting Lubbock after all. Luckily for Tech, Breiden Fehoko is already on campus and several defensive commits are visiting. Also helps that fellow Linebacker D'Vonta Hinton is visiting. It's also important that he enjoys Texas Tech and the city of Lubbock and is comfortable playing there for the next 4 or so years
Basketball Recruits:
Curtis Hollis - Small Forward (Summitt HS, Mansfield, TX)
Height | Weight | Ratings |
6'5" | 180 lbs | NR (247), NR (ESPN), 3-star (Rivals), NR (Scout) |
I don't know much about Curtis Hollis. I just saw on twitter last night that he was unofficially visiting this weekend without any knowledge of him before. Plus, his only profile is on Rivals, which list him as a 3-star recruit. He'll probably attend the Iowa State game while he is there, so hopefully Tech can show up this weekend and play well against Iowa State. I can't really anything else about it because I don't know him and couldn't find any film on him. But hopefully he is impressed and Tech shows a need for him.
