Possible Red Raiders: A Weekly Recruiting Update - 12/15/2014

A recruit names Tech his favorite, Hawaii athletes get Tech offers, The Red Raiders look at the class of 2016 and the NORAD Kliff Tracker. Plus a look at Arico Evans and

Writer's Note: I have been around my computer since Friday, so I may have left out some info. If something has happened the past couple days, feel free to comment about it below.

Football 2015:

  • DeAndre McNeal, 93 rated ATH, will commit to a school this Friday. Tech has been going after McNeal since last Spring. He could play RB, WR or LB at the next level.
  • Semisi Uluave, 91 rated OT, told Oregonlive.com that he is starting to lose contact with UCLA. The Bruins were in the lead, but it looks like Oregon and Texas Tech are right in the mix. He will visit Tech in January.
  • Reggie Walker, 87 rated LB, told RaiderPower.com that Tech was in his Top group along with Florida, Kansas State and Arkansas. He plans to visit Tech at some point. He also said he was impressed with Tech's performance against Baylor, saying that was the best they played all year.
  • Riley Daniel, 81 rated OT, decommitted from Houston this past week and opened up his recruitment. He also has said that Tech is currently in the lead.
  • Eli Howard, 75 rated DE, committed to North Texas on Tuesday. Tech visited later that day, but have yet to offer Howard, An offer could change his mind.
  • Viliamu Auwae, 75 rated OT, received an offer from Texas Tech last Friday while Tech was in Hawaii. Tech has 4 O-linemen committed to could add a couple more.
  • Pesi Savea, NR 2015 OT, also received an offer from Texas Tech according to Daniel Paulling. While he isn't ranked, he is 6'7" and weighs 300 lbs.

Football 2016+:

  • Jeffrey McCulloch, 87 rated OLB, received his an offer from Texas Tech this past week according to Brian Perroni of 247sports. Texas, OU and A&M look to be in the lead, but it's early in the process. Kevin Curtis is his recruiter.
  • Khalil Lacy, NR 2016 WR, is receiving interest from Texas Tech. He currently doesn't have offers, but is receiving interest from a lot of teams.
  • Damion Miller, NR 2017 WR, received his first offer from Texas Tech this past week. The coaches visited John Tyler two weeks ago and apparently liked what Miller could do.
  • Jaylon Jackson, NR 2017 WR, received his first offer from Texas Tech this past week. Jackson currently plays for Cedar Hill and played last season along side 5-star WR DeMarcus Lodge
  • Calvin Bundage, 83 rated 2016 S, received his 5th offer from Texas Tech on Friday. He also has offers from in-state Oklahoma, OKST and Tulsa along with Iowa State.
  • Xavier Kelly, 87 rated 2016 DE, was offered by Texas Tech last week. Kelly is currently committed to Kansas State and also holds an offer from Nebraska.

NORAD Kliff Tracker:

Kliff and company were out on the road again this past week. They were able to scout and talk to recruits until today, when the dead period came into effect. This will last until January 15th, when the coaches can go out and look at recruits again.  Let's see what the coaches have done this past week.

  • December 8th, 2014 (Monday) - Kliff Kingsbury visited Nimtz High School in Irving on Monday. Not sure who he looked at, but two guys he could've looked at were Delontae Scott (79 rated LB) and Michael Scott (84 rated LB). Delontae is currently committed to SMU, while Michael decommitted from SMU.
  • December 8th, 2014 (Monday) - Kliff Kingsbury and Eric Morris stopped by Lamar HS in Arlington, TX to look at Kofi Boating (87 rated 2016 WR). His lone offer thus far is from Northwestern. They likely also visited his teammate Shane Buchele (93 rated DT QB).
  • December 8th, 2014 (Monday) - Texas Tech visited Lonzell Gilmore (78 rated DE) on Monday. The DE will visit Nevada this weekend and visit Texas Tech in mid January.
  • December 9th, 2014 (Tuesday) - Kliff Kingsbury and Trey Haverty visited DeAndre McNeal (93 rated ATH) last Tuesday. Tech is in McNeal's Top 5 and are pushing hard for him.
  • December 9th, 2014 (Tuesday) - Matt Brock visited Eli Howard (75 rated DE) this Tuesday. He was also visited by New Mexico
  • December 9th, 2014 (Tuesday) - Kliff Kingsbury was at Bishop Dunne this past Tuesday likely looking at Darrion Daniels (88 rated DT), AD Miller (84 rated WR) and Loren Mondy (NR 2017 ILB). Tech is trying hard to get those 3.
  • December 11th, 2014 (Thursday) - Kliff Kingsbury, Mike Smith, and Lee Hays visited Breiden Fehoko (97 rated DT commit) today. Tech currently has 3 DTs committed this class. Breiden will participate in the Under Armor All American game on the 2nd and come to Tech shorty after the event.
  • December 11th, 2014 (Thursday) - Kliff Kingsbury visited Kapolei High School while in Hawaii. He visited Toleafoa Auwae (3-star 2016 OT) while he was there.
  • December 11th, 2014 (Thursday) - Matt Brock visited Terry Wilson (NR 2016 DT QB) on Thursday. Wilson has one lone offer thus far from Arkansas State but is also getting looked hard at by Arky.
  • December 11th, 2014 (Thursday) - Darrin Chiaverini was at Augustus Hawkins HS in LA this past Thursday. I don't know who he was looking at, but it's good to see Tech try and expand to California.
  • December 11th, 2014 (Thursday) - Darrin Chiaverini was at La Mirada HS to talk to Tony Brown (82 rated WR). Brown is a big WR target who could be making a decision anytime now.
  • December 11th, 2014 (Thursday) - Eric Morris visited Mike Williams (91 rated 2016 DT) on Thursday, Mike is one of the top targets in the 2016 class.
  • December 11th, 2014 (Thursday) - Tubby Smith watched Trae Young (93 rated 2017 SG) last Thursday at the Burkburnett Tournament. Trae has been looked at by a lot of colleges already. His dad is former Tech basketball player Rayford Young.
  • December 12th, 2014 (Friday) - Eric Morris went to Arlington Bowie to visit Madison Akamnonu (93 rated OT commit).I'm not sure who else Morris would've visited.
  • December 12th, 2014 (Friday) - Kliff Kingsbury, Mike Smith and Lee Hays visited Semisi Uluave (91 rated OT) last Friday. Tech is still looking to add another OT or two to the 2015 class.
