The Big 12 Expansion Bracket was a great success. It got people to think and fan bases voiced their opinions on why their school should be added. It even got some fan bases to try to rig a poll that literally has no weight on what the Big 12 tries to do. The West region had the 2-seed BYU squaring off with 4-seed Colorado State and the East region had heavy favorite 1-seed Cincinnati facing Cinderella 6-seed East Carolina. Now, let's see who the fans picked for who they would want to add to the Big 12 if the conference was to add 2 teams.
West Champion
Brigham Young University
The Cougars gained over 65% of the vote to win the West region of the bracket. BYU is a logical pick for the Big 12 and recent reports have them listed as the top school the conference would like to add. Once expansion talks get down to the nitty gritty we'll see if BYU is ultimately one of the schools added.
East Champion
East Carolina University
The underdog pulled it out, ECU is the East region champion. The vote was neck and neck all weekend and it ended with the Pirates having just over 52% of the vote with just over 100 votes being the difference maker. If this bracket proved anything, it's that ECU's fan base is fierce and wants to play with the Power 5 schools. I'm not so sure that the Pirates would be added if the Big 12 only adds 2 schools, but if they add 4 ECU could find themselves in the discussion.
Thanks to everyone that participated in the bracket, it was a lot of fun. It was nice to see all the different opinions on who should be added. Hopefully we won't have to do this next summer, but if no schools are added yet we just might have to!
