1. Red Raider of the Game
DH Cory Raley had a big game, going 4-5 with 4 runs and 4 RBI's. He started off the scoring with a 2-run shot in the 2nd and had a 2-RBI single as part of the 6-run 6th inning. He also had 2 stolen bases and a walk.
2. Play That Impacted the Game
The 6th inning was full of goodies for tech. Tyler Floyd accounted for 2 of the outs, as he was the first and last batter of the inning as the Red Raiders would bat around the order. Tech scored 6 runs on 4 hits while UNLV committed 4 errors and walked 3 batters. Tech also stole second twice in the inning, first by Raley, and then by Garcia.
3. Stat of the Game
Tech won in hits 13-9, 13-6 in walks, and in stolen bases 7-1. Although they only had 4 more hits, they had 13 more free bases than UNLV. More bases mean more runners, and can lead to more runs.
4. Forgotten Play of the Game
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, UNLV tied up the game at 2, both runs coming with 2 outs. They had 2 men on, but Damron was able to limit the damage and strike out a batter for the 3rd out and not let the Rebels do any more damage.
5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game
Tech brought out the big sticks today, and was able to plate 14 runs while the pitching staff was able to limit any damage to more than 2 runs allowed in any inning. Also, the Red Raiders scored a run in 6 of the last 7 innings, with 6 in the 6th, and 3 insurance runs in the top of the 9th.
Tech returns home for a conference series with Kansas St starting Friday at 6:30pm
