Freshmen Pitching Takes A Hit in 8-5 Loss to UNLV

Tech drops the 1st game of 2 to UNLV in Sin City

1.      Red Raider of the Game

In a game where nobody had that great a performance, Tyler went 2-3 with a run and 2 RBI's. He got the scoring started for Tech with a RBI double, and scored on Long's 2 RBI single the next play. He would fly out in the 3rd, scoring Gardner.

2.      Play That Impacted the Game

In the bottom of the 5th inning, with Tech up 5-4, the leadoff batter would triple to start off a bad inning for the Red Raiders. A throwing error scored a run to tie the game and UNLV later took the lead on a single. Both runs were unearned.

3.      Stat of the Game

11 runners were left on base for Tech. Stranding runners has been a problem this season, even in the wins. In a game where we needed a few more runs, not capitalizing on having runners on hurt us.

4.      Forgotten Play of the Game

After Raley walked to start the 2nd inning, Gute had a 13 pitch at bat ending up in a walk. This at bat involved 7 foul balls, with 6 straight when the count was full. Gute never gave up and was able to extend his appearance at the plate.

5.      Reason Tech Lost the Game

The freshman pitching that has carried us in conference play so far this year was victimized in Vegas. Lanning and Shetter each pitched 4 innings, each giving up 4 runs. The offense couldn't capitalize on their base runners, and just couldn't get it done last night.

Game 2 of the series will be this afternoon at 3:05pm.
