Installment 3 of 10 is known more for the events that led into the game than the game itself.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Date:  January 2, 2010

Location: Alamodome - San Antonio, TX

Bowl:  Valero Alamo Bowl

Opponent:  Michigan State Spartans

Attendance: 64,757

Score: Texas Tech 41  Michigan State 31

Several Red Raider Seniors went out in fashion.  Taylor Potts and Steven Sheffield combined to throw for 460 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Detron "Megatron of the South Plains" Lewis had a TD, 10 catches and 114 yards receiving and Lyle Leong caught a TD in their final game running routes for the Red Raiders. Current Calgary Stampeders CB Jamar Wall got into the act with an interception in his last contest in the scarlet and black.  Junior Baron Batch pitched in with 200+ all purpose yards and sealed the deal with a 13-yard rushing TD with just over 2 minutes remaining. Ruffin McNeill picked up his first win of his coaching career serving as Texas Tech Interim Head Coach. SAY WHAT???

A great game and terrific effort by our Red Raiders was overshadowed by the suspension and eventual firing of Mike Leach just days prior.  Tech suspended the Pirate on December 28th midst allegations of inappropriate treatment of a player (Adam James).  Leach was fired two days after and 7 years later we are all hoping the curse is over!!
