RP.com breaks the news (which doesn't happen very often, so shoutout) and Texas Tech has their 11th commitment of the year in WR Marcus Johnson from Clear Spring HS and League City, TX. I had a feeling that there would be a few commitments from this past weekend's camp in Houston and this is the first one. Let's get to it.

The Player Speaks: Because this was relative late-breaking last night, I haven't seen any recent articles. With that being said, I did find a few articles on Johnson, notably an article from the Examiner (take this with a grain of salt, the Examiner is more like Bleacher Report) that Johnson was hoping for a TAMU offer, but apparently after camping at TAMU earlier in the summer, an offer never arrived. Perhaps this is Texas Tech's Ryan Tannehill.
Earlier this month, The Chron previewed Johnson's Clear Spring team and he got a mention, but not much else. I also found an article where the IMG Academy gave Johnson an All-Madden nomination. I guess that's good, he was one of only 3 receivers to receive this nomination, so congrats!
And hot off the presses, VYPE's Houston Hot 100 was released yesterday and Johnson was the 37th best player in the Houston area. Woot!
Film and other good, good after the jump.
The Video: Film don't lie:
Scouting Report: I really like how Johnson seems fairly adept at catching deep passes. Really seems to know how to go up and get the ball as well as catching the ball in traffic. You'll note that I couldn't find any sort of 40-yard dash time and it seems that it takes a moment for Johnson to get going, but when he does, he can out-run defenders. I am curious about what his fake 40-yard dash time and would expect something in the 4.50 to 4.60 range.
Last year Johnson caught 42 passes for 753 yards and 9 touchdowns, which works out to a 17.93 average. This validates the thought the film, which is that Johnson catches a lot of passes on the film and he apparently did that all season long.
And if you're into offer lists, Johnson offers an interesting offer list. Johnson was being offered by Air Force, Arizona, Kansas, Navy, Northwestern, Rice, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wyoming. The fact that Johnson was offered by Northwestern and Rice makes me think that there won't be any issues with him qualifying.
Marcus, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
