After a couple of quiet weeks, Texas Tech obtained a new commitment for the 2018 season, as wide receiver Sterling Galban decided to join the Red Raiders after decommitting from Iowa State in July. He chose to come to Lubbock over, among others, TCU, Illinois, and Nevada.

Listed at 180 pounds, Galban is a fast wide receiver, who ran a 40-yard dash in 4.43 and a 100-meter dash in 10.69. In his junior season he had 70 receptions for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns, while he also stood out in the 7-vs-7 circuit.

Sterling is a fine route runner and with this skill he often creates separation between him and the defender, consequently obtaining many uncontested receptions. When he has the ball in his hands he has an important acceleration that allows him to break into the open field and run away from defenders.

According to, Galban is the 27th wide receiver in Texas and joins a class that already has four receiver commitments. There’s always need for more, so let’s celebrate this new recruit. He’s supposed to play in the slot but he could be a significant weapon also on special teams.

Now the recruiting process is heating up, as the schools take advantage of home games to invite high school players to visit the campus and structures, hoping to convince them to commit. Viva the Matadors will keep you update through it all, so stay tuned!
