WHY I AM A RED RAIDER!!!! NOT JUST A FAN

We Are The Red Raiders

We are often brash and sometimes arrogant in defending a heritage that has long remained in the shadows of institutions that have believed themselves entitled because of who they are rather than what they produce.

We earned the right to our name by surviving and even excelling in classes that prepared us for living in the real world while sometimes investing too much time in late night escapades that we will remember forever.

It is our title by virtue of supporting our University that has been filled with teams of over achievers… they had to be just to compete with the so called elite.

We are Red Raiders by choice, not by circumstance. Our loyalty is rooted deep and comes from years of dedication to the truths and values learned at the feet of many of the great minds of this country blended generously with nights that were filled with details that may forever remain a mystery.

We bleed scarlet and black. Our devotion has not been purchased with a cap or t-shirt. Our dedication will not falter with a win/loss record. We will exult in our victories with an exuberance that borders on arrogance and mourn our losses with a defiant attitude that may never be understood by those who can never lay claim to this heritage.

We respect the administration and coaches that lead our University, but we refuse to blindly follow individuals whose loyalty comes with a paycheck. Lead us to victory, teach us honor and respect, develop us into mature contributors of society, but never let anyone delude themselves into believing that they are bigger than our University.

We are grateful for the heritage of The Matador, but equally proud of Joe Kirk and those that followed… the men and women who made us so much more than the matadors.
