It's that time of the week! Time to answer your questions for this week's Matador Mailbag. Let's get right to it!
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU why do green m&m’s taste less chocolatey than the red ones?
— Jonathan (@Jon1443) September 7, 2016
I think all M&M's taste the same no matter the color.
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU Should we worry about AZ ST running quarterback?
— Alex (@ttuisthebest) September 7, 2016
David Gibbs and his defense should be aware of Manny Wilkins. However, I would be more worried about him specifically if he ran for more than 89 yards. The fact that all of ASU's touchdowns in Week 1 came on the ground does concern me since this defense struggled against the run last year. However, based on their last performance, I believe Gibbs will have this defense fired up and ready to go.
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU If only one TTU player scores every touchdown who is it?
— Hunter Shade (@hunter_shade42) September 7, 2016
A few come to mind, but I think that could be Pat Mahomes. He passed for four TDs and ran for two more last week so he definitely has the capability to put the offense on his back. While Pat obviously can't throw and catch touchdowns by himself, I feel he can be responsible for every touchdown in this game passing or running.
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU our performance against SFA was very similar to the one against them in 2013, should we see a similar season?
— . (@kaledzakzok) September 7, 2016
Well considering we finished that year 7-5 with a bowl win, I believe so. I predicted before the season the Red Raiders would go 8-4 and I feel that's a possibility. They have a favorable schedule to do it and they have a good number of starters returning.
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU 2-0 or 1-1 after Saturday night?
— Chase (@Chaselynch1) September 7, 2016
I believe Tech will win and go to 2-0. While ASU had a great game against an FCS school, similar to Tech, their defense gave up 369 yards passing last week. I feel Mahomes can pass for that many in his sleep based on what I've seen him put up before. Tech's defense will likely struggle, but I believe their offense will outplay ASU's.
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU what's your ultimate game day tailgate food?
— Drew Borsellino (@TheDrewTTU) September 7, 2016
For me it's all about the BBQ! Brisket, sausage, ribs, and maybe some wings. That's the food that screams tailgating to me.
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU Should we buy into Nic Shimonek?
— Isaiah Lucio Lopez (@WreckEmLucio) September 7, 2016
After his Week 1 performance in the 3rd and 4th quarters? I don't think so, yet. I don't know how many more opportunities Tech's backup QBs will get based on the fact that Mahomes is the undisputed starter. Shimonek could get another shot in a blowout and play better, but who knows? I'm also interested in seeing Jett Duffey play at some point this year.
@vivathematadors @Maitland_TTU why does Texas get such a jump for taking down ND, but Wisconsin only gets a pat on the back for LSU?
— Jeramey Gillilan (@JerameyDane) September 7, 2016
I think a lot of experts are drawn to the fact that Texas beat what was supposed to be one of the top teams this year and they have not done that a lot in recent years. I think Wisconsin should be given more credit for taking down LSU than Texas did to Notre Dame. The Irish had players suspended and injured and in my opinion they are a little overrated this year. LSU has been consistent for years under Les Miles and I think they are a better team than Notre Dame this year.
