Texas Tech Walks Off in Midland

The Red Raiders played Abilene Christian in Midland tonight, and won with a big hit in the 9th

1. Red Raider of the Game

Junior Hunter Hargrove started tonight's game at third base, just his 2nd start this year and 18th appearance. He crossed the plate in the 8th after a nice double which put Tech up ahead 4-3. After ACU tied the game up in the top of the 9th, Hunter had a single with the bases loaded and no outs to win the game for Tech.

2. Play That Impacted the Game

Tech was unable to hold onto the 1-run lead in the top of the 9th after ACU scored on what was ruled an error to Michael Davis at 2nd base. Going into the bottom of the 9th, only 1 run was needed and Tech quickly loaded the bases after a walk, a balk, a single, and an intentional walk to Gute to bring up Hargrove who had the Red raiders only extra base hit of the night. At that point for ACU, it was pick your poison, either Gute or Hargrove, and they chose.....poorly.

3. Stat of the Game

All 5 of Tech's runs were scored on singles, as they used the small ball very effectively tonight, with 9 hits, 8 of them singles.

4. Forgotten Play of the Game

After 2 quick outs in the bottom of the 5th inning, Tech had 3 singles, a walk, and a stolen base to score 2 runs and tie the game up at 3. This team has shown all season they have a little 2-out magic and is never really down or out.

5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game

The pitching tonight only gave up 1 earned run as 2 runs were scored on errors and their other run reached base on an error. The infield had an uncharacteristically sloppy night, and the errors will need to be cleaned up heading into the big series this weekend. The lineup was able to hit successfully and that will need to continue this weekend as well. A walkoff win is always good for momentum, and hopefully the team will feed off of that starting Friday evening.
