Tailgate Essentials: The Playlist

Every good tailgate needs a fun soundtrack. Here at VTM we want to help you with that fun soundtrack.

Tailgating is a science. It's pretty hard to mess up grilling and having a couple of beers outdoors. However, the level of enjoyment can skyrocket due to a few simple things. One of those things is having a great playlist to go along with your time outdoors. We've taken the initiative to make that playlist for you, through having all of our writers give 3-5 songs to the master playlist. We hope y'all like it, because we sure as heck do.

Jonathan Althaus:

"Alcohol" - Brad Paisley

"Friends In Low Places" - Garth Brooks

"Beer For My Horses" - Toby Keith

"Country Roads" - John Denver

"Kickstart My Heart" - Motley Crue

Drew Borsellino:

"Wagon Wheel" - Old Crow Medicine Show: Nothing says Texas Tech like an awesome country sing-a-long. Pretty much everyone and anyone knows this jam. And don't even try to play that crappy Darius Rucker remake, this is and always will be my go-to tailgate jam.

"Livin' On A Prayer" - Bon Jovi: This is a bit of a curveball but this is also a classic 80s sing-a-long. This is a good song to play a few hours into a tailgate, where everyone is really feeling the affects of the tailgate. It will for sure get everyone up and singing along. Plus this song brings together all generations of Texas Tech fans who might be tailgating together.

"My Texas" - Josh Abbott & Pat Green: What else says Texas Tech more than Josh Abbott and Pat Green? This song is upbeat and mentions a lot of places most of everyone from Texas Tech knows. It's also really easy to sing along with as well. Plus everyone waits for the part about Lubbock and makes sure they yell out that verse.

Conner Crisp:

"Friends In Low Places" - Garth Brooks (It's so nice we added it twice)

"Here For A Good Time" - King George Strait

"Carry On" - Pat Green

"Black Betty" - Ram Jam: Mandatory for drinking games

Hunter Cooke:

"No Diggity" - Blackstreet ft. Dr. Dre: I thought it was time to switch the vibe up a little bit. Let two of the smoothest performers soothe you with a throwback straight out of the 90's.

"Ignition Remix" - R. Kelly: Regardless of R. Kelly's morals, this is an instant classic. I've seen everyone from leather jacket clad bikers to my boss when I worked at Pizza Hut singing along with this song. It simply brings people together.

"Toes" - Zac Brown Band: Speaks for itself.

"As She's Walking Away" - Zac Brown Band ft. Alan Jackson: As does this one.

Wes Shaw:

"The Underdog" - Spoon

"Welcome To The Jungle" - Guns 'n' Roses

"Songs About Texas" - Pat Green

We've also taken the liberty of throwing all of these in a spotify playlist. Happy grilling!
